Mission Statement

As experimental filmmakers who are inspired by the world and people around us, we will be challenging and blending genre conventions in the documentary and narrative film realms, with hopes of bringing new life to an old town's history.

The Story

The Story of Flood Line…

Flood Line follows two young sisters, Sylvia and Sage, who are left to stay with an estranged aunt in a rural, tumbledown New York town in mid-summer. Upon arrival, the girls get the sense that their surroundings are out of place, out of time, and full of unspoken secrets. The mysterious circumstances for their visit imbue the days with dread. Their unknown relative proves to be reclusive and odd and leaves the girls to fend for themselves among the suspicious townspeople.

While meandering the streets, Sylvia learns about an event that seems to have changed the town forever. So it's said, an unexpected and ruthless flood destroyed the town 40 years prior - leaving behind vestiges of trauma. Water lines can still be seen in the homes that survived, while many families were robbed of futures and livelihoods. Some still live in the town to date, which is reeling from the devastation and forever feels as if it's standing still in time.

Sylvia learns of more town-lore. A child who drowned in a basement. Curses that keep the town stagnant. There are warnings that make Sylvia fearful of the towns-folk, eventually the people close to her, and even herself.

For me, this film evokes themes and imagery from deep within my creative being. I first started daydreaming about it in 2017 while filming my German grandmother at her home in Schleswig-Holstein - collecting pieces of her fragmented life and her childhood war-time stories. The film was awakened once again this past year and has been living inside me as a synthesis of years of abundant pondering...

About us and our next steps...

Elmira is a town that holds personal meaning and is full of fond memories. We chose this town as the location of the film after we learned of it's interesting history, filming the short film, Pond in 2018 (Produced by director, Sophia Feuer, and directed by our Cinematographer, Tyler Macri). We proceeded to visit the town to film and became inspired, all throughout our time living in Upstate, NY. Now having had some space to ruminate, speak with our friends from Elmira, and gather our resources, we feel ready to return to NY to tell this story.

We're currently in the process of planning our next location scouts in upstate, NY and are starting to cast the film. The film is scheduled to shoot this summer and will have its premiere publically in November, 2022 at the Jacob Burns Film Center alongside seven other short films created within the Creative Culture Fellowship Program. Following this screening, the film will be submitted to a variety of film festivals that supporters will also be notified of in the case that they wish to attend.

Filmmaking in our current times...

In the past two years, isolation and quiet have made familiar the mundanity of life, allowing the nuances of the everyday to take on new meaning, new forms. We're all emerging from the silence into a new world - very much reflected and felt in the town that we will be filming in. I think this creates an interesting atmosphere and we've had many conversations that reflect this. All that being said, COVID-19 is a major consideration for our team, as we try to make this process as safe as possible. We will be following standard safety recommendations. Luckily, because we will be shooting mid-summer, much of our production will take place outside!

Director's Note

I wanted to take the opportunity to express my gratitude to all who have donated, or are considering supporting my film. Being that film is a tireless, difficult, LONG, and expensive medium to work within, it means that having financial flexibility allows me step outside of my comfort zone. To take risks and pursue new avenues in hopes of expanding the language of cinema in my own small way.

I consider this project an immense opportunity for me. As a Valentine and Clark Emerging Artist Fellow at the Jacob Burns Film Center, I’ve been able to develop new ideas and generate new work in a hectic and unpredictable world.

I hope that anyone who has questions, inquiries, or desire to connect feels welcome to do so. My team is small and dedicated - that being said, we appreciate any support we can get in whatever form it may be. This campaign will get the film off the ground and cover the basic necessities for filming. I hope to secure funding to pay my cast and crew fairly and take the project even further. Please reach out if interested in joining our crew as an Executive Producer or in any other way.

Thank you all!
