The Story
The day of a crucial job interview, Alex crouches in her closet, sucking a mango seed and moaning into a microphone. Her session is disrupted when her mother Olivia bursts into the room. The morning interruption sets the tone for the rest of Alex’s day as she juggles her job search with her suddenly blossoming content page. We follow as Alex juggles the pressure to get the job with navigating a shared space with her mother again. Although helped by her annoyingly stable best friend, Alex continues to be tempted by the popularity gained through secret life.
Forked Tongue focuses on an absolute mess of a woman hiding a secret as she struggles to grow without sabotaging herself. The enjoyment that comes from watching a messy, flawed character trying (and sometimes failing) to be a better person is limited for viewers looking to experience such a story with a woman of color as lead. Helping Forked Tongue means supporting a project that centers a complex character of color navigating sexual exploration without shame. This is a story meant to push viewers to rethink what it means to grapple with our understandings of desire & truth telling.
Budget & Production Plan

We are currently in the pre-production process with a filming date in mid-January. The bulk of raised funds will be aimed towards locking a location large enough to serve for multiple scenes, cutting down on the need for multiple company moves. Additionally, a major priority for us is a great experience for the cast and crew. On top of compensating actors, we’re hoping to utilize funds to secure additional equipment that will aid in production. Finally, color grading and sound design play a large part in creating the tone for our project. We’ll need the funds to secure a strong post team to help the vision come to life.

Donate: Supporting this project financially not only helps us meet tangible goals but also encourages a team of budding filmmakers bringing a script to life. To borrow words from a fellow artist, as artists we’re sensitive about our shit.
