The Story
What would you do if you had the chance to go on one last date with your wife years after she passed away?
Our short film follows Sky, an Indigenous woman and grieving widow, who lost her wife Ellie to breast cancer three years before.

On Sky’s 30th birthday, she receives an unexpected gift in the form of a box of audio recordings from Ellie. The cassette tapes are a final grand gesture that invites Sky to share one last evening with the woman she loved.
"I know we have a one birthday gift rule, but this one is a special one, so I decided to nix it. Like every year. Even from the great beyond I couldn't help it!”
Sky dons her headphones and sets off down memory lane. As Sky listens, she is guided through their shared past and reminded of the depth of their connection.

During the process, she makes an unexpected connection with Jamie, another Indigenous woman she met at grief counseling.
"Chocolate or vanilla?"
"Neither."
"...strawberry? I'll see what I can do."

Sky is faced with the choice to heal and move forward, or stay caught in the grief that has kept her stagnant.
"This love feels like the colors of the sunrise, rather than the sunset. Both beautiful. Both constant."
Support our film and follow Sky’s journey as she loves hard, feels deeply, and takes her most important step towards her future.

This film is a tribute to queer love, resilience, and the power of letting go. It centers joy, cultural connection, and the beauty of moving forward without trauma defining the narrative.
For Sky, With Love is “13 Reasons Why” and “The Life List” meets “Fancy Dance”.

Why this story?
We've all experienced loss, and many of us have felt that loss close to us. Sky's story will connect with anyone who has grieved and struggled to move on, regardless of identity. We get to see what continuing on might look like for Sky, and the love that can come from that acceptance. The stories we see in mainstream media focus on the trauma Queer and Indigenous people face. While those stories are important, "For Sky, With Love" explores themes of the human experience that connect with all viewers. Connection breeds empathy, and we would certainly love more of it.

What is Cosmic Coyote Media?
Cosmic Coyote Media is a team of female, queer, and Indigenous creatives. Our team met through theater and discovered a shared passion for storytelling that uplifts and connects. Our journey began with a production of Cinderella at Port Gamble Theater in 2022, and grew as we combined our talents in projects like The Crucible at Kitsap Forest Theater. Now we are Cosmic Coyote Media, a collaborative team with diverse skills and a deep commitment to creating meaningful content.
Our Values
We believe in abundance, collaboration, and community. We reject the notion that another’s success limits our own. Instead, we see each other’s achievements as fuel for shared creative growth. We value respect, authenticity, and inclusivity, striving to create safe spaces where everyone feels seen and celebrated. Cosmic Coyote Media is dedicated to telling stories that celebrate community, love, and joy without centering trauma or violence around identity. Through inclusive filmmaking, we aim to foster understanding, connection, and positive representation that will help reshape how our communities are seen.
Why this story?
The world needs our stories. Queer and Indigenous communities deserve to see their lives represented in media beyond narratives of pain around their identities. We want to normalize these experiences, offer new perspectives, and connect with audiences who may not know these stories firsthand. Film allows us to reach people where they are, making art accessible and impactful across boundaries. By creating these stories ourselves, we can help reshape what representation looks like.
