The Story

In a suburban neighborhood somewhere, a man valiantly agrees to change the bed sheets. When his ever-patient wife crawls inside the duvet cover to illustrate a superior methodology, she seemingly disappears. He crawls in after her to entertain the joke but soon finds himself lost within an endless void space resembling an infinite duvet cover that is the only barrier between him and the hellish realm outside.
Growing up in the suburbs, the neighborhoods seemed endless with the same routine of chores and tasks but with this air of safety. But this safety is only as thin as the sheet a child hides him or herself in from the monster in the closet. Freak in the Sheets will explore an uncanny world of horror that feels almost unreachable, but is lurking just behind the thin veil of the most mundane domestic tasks - a hell dimension waiting beyond the duvet cover.
While not traditionally scary, we wanted to show how easy it is for even something like changing your bed sheets to take a turn for the worse. Like a fly finding itself in a spider’s web, it’s possible that we may find ourselves in an inexplicable, unescapable horror when we least suspect it.

Surreal but practical. Fantastical but horrifying. Mundane turned inescapable nightmare. Like THE DESCENT (2005) meets DAVE MADE A MAZE (2017).

By donating, you’ll be able to choose from an exclusive and exiting set of perks, but you’ll also be supporting indie genre filmmaking and helping us bring this vision to life. Your contributions will cover the unique set design, lighting equipment, costumes, locations, cast & crew pay, and of course crafty for the shoot days.
We’re aiming for $6500.00 for this fundraiser.

The team is currently deep in the throes of pre-production - location scouting, set building, test shoots, you name it - and are scheduled to shoot this over the course of two weekends at the end of this July (July 24, 25 + August 1st, specifically). The turnaround will be incredibly tight as it’s going to premiere at the Silverlake Scream Show in October so that’s why it’s important we plan for everything to maximize every minute we shoot.
Post-Scream Show, we plan on entering and playing the robust circuit of genre-facing film festivals around the world. We want to reach as big an audience as possible, and festivals are a key part of that journey.

Each and every penny you’re able to contribute is so meaningful to the film. We have a small but powerful team of filmmakers on this project, more than capable of stretching every dollar to make a lot of a little to create an entire dimension out of a few hundred yards of fabric.
If you’d like to help in other ways, please share a post about this film on Instagram or wherever you get your social media fill.

About This Team

Ben Granger is a Los Angeles-based director, writer, and editor who loves everything horror. Despite this, Ben spent almost a decade working in the comedy and documentary space (working on projects for companies like HBO, Netflix, FX, and Adult Swim) while writing genre films on the side. That experience, along with his suburban upbringing, has informed his style of often offbeat yet grounded stories.
Ben recently wrote and directed WHO’S THAT KNOCKING AT THIS LATE HOUR?, a short horror film about two peripheral friends trying to connect when they get to an AirBnB first, finding themselves alone for a night only to face the sound of someone knocking at the front door in the middle of the night. His other shorts to date include CHRONOVISION as well as SENSORY GATE.
With a background in editing and visual effects, Ben brings a thoughtful and open approach to his storytelling allowing the story to inform him and he’s committed to sharing his love for the genre with anyone who will listen.

Alex was born and raised in Texas, growing up in Fort Worth and attending the University of Texas at Austin, where he graduated with a BFA in Radio-Television-Film in 2014. A lifelong student of cinema, Alex’s love for the silver screen drew him to Los Angeles. He worked at XYZ Films from 2018-2025, and as Director of Acquisitions and Development, he contributed to a wide slate of projects at all stages of production. Alex’s producing credits include THE EDGE OF NORMAL starring Chloe Grace Moretz and directed by Carlota Pereda; THE RITUAL starring Al Pacino and directed by David Midell; and 2026 SXSW premiere title HE BLED NEON, starring Joe Cole and Marshawn Lynch and directed by Drew Kirsch.
In 2026, Alex founded Dracena Pictures with a mission to continue discovering bold new voices in independent film and producing theatrical titles for a shifting cinematic landscape. His current slate of upcoming projects includes THE BROODMARE, to be directed by Anna Zlokovic (V/H/S/HALLOWEEN), and DON’T BE ALONE ON VALENTINE’S DAY, to be directed by Duncan Birmingham (WHO INVITED THEM), along with to-be-announced titles from filmmakers Jacqueline Castel (MY ANIMAL) and Jim Byrkit (COHERENCE).

Ivan Ovalle is the Head of Post Production at London Alley, where he oversees award-winning music videos, commercials, and branded content for some of the world’s most influential artists and brands, including Ariana Grande, Post Malone, Doja Cat, Ed Sheeran, Meta, Samsung, and Adobe. His work spans projects that reach global audiences and shape culture across music, entertainment, and advertising.
