FROG-MAN V is a coming-of-age comedy about fear. Using quirky humor, it pays homage to kitsch horror and 90s nostalgia while exploring adolescent fears of the unknown.

Mission Statement

FROG-MAN V examines the transition from childhood to adolescence and how that experience impacts the person we become. This project proudly supports independent artists (NOT AI!) who used human creativity to make our amazing original artwork.

The Story

After seeing the VHS cover of the B-horror movie FROG-MAN V, a girl becomes anxious about what lies ahead as she leaves childhood behind.

A young girl's transition into adolescence can be particularly challenging, as she must figure out what she wants for herself rather than what the outside world expects of her. Will she retreat into childhood, or will she face growing up on her own terms?

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT

A recurring theme in my work is the exploration of formative childhood experiences and how they continue to influence the way we navigate through the world today. The portrayal of women in the media has a significant influence on how young girls view themselves, and it is critical that stories empower them rather than leave them feeling vulnerable.

I have been excited about this story for years. I don’t remember the first time the image of a girl looking at a creepy VHS cover popped into my head, but it’s probably been there since my own childhood encounters in video rental stores. The idea always felt very personal, but as I shared the concept with friends over the years, a lot of people related to that experience. I finally talked out the story with our screenwriter, and he turned the idea into FROG-MAN V.

PROJECT STATUS

We are currently in pre-production on this film, with plans to shoot in October 2023 in Jackson, TN. We're an intentionally small team that has worked together on no-to-low-budget projects for years, so we're very adept at digging through attics for props and texting cast members to determine costume choices from their existing wardrobes. However, with FROG-MAN-V, we want to immerse the audience in nostalgia! A huge portion of the budget will go towards production design to make FROG-MAN V really fun to watch. We have a wonderful opportunity to build our 90s video rental store on a sound stage and have already invested our own finances to get started! We've been really proud of the visual and narrative quality of our films, so we’re excited by the opportunity to level up. If we are lucky enough to exceed our budget, we plan to compensate our amazing team financially in whatever way we can.

We are inviting you to join this team and make our goals for this short a reality. In addition to seeing this film come to life, we’ve got some awesome incentives to choose from at all different levels. Even if you can't partner with us financially, SHARING and FOLLOWING this project is just as helpful as a pledge!

If you love coming-of-age stories, vintage tech, kitsch horror, or 90s nostalgia, you are going to love FROG-MAN V! Thanks so much for helping us make this very special project a reality!
