Mission Statement

As art majors and heist film lovers, we decided to use this comedic medium to join the age old question of what defines something as art. Audience members may laugh at the absurd efforts to steal the target but they also may ponder how it rings true to real life actions within the art world.

The Story

Fruits of Our Labor is a slick and witty heist short film. A team of experienced art thieves reluctantly join up with a rookie informant named Johnson to steal an expensive, if derivative, contemporary art piece from a melodramatic billionaire. The story follows Johnson as he stumbles through his first ever art heist.

The Purpose

Fruits of Our Labor is a nod to all the heist film greats while also serving as a bit of satire, adding commentary to a popular subject: Contemporary Art. This film intends to interrogate the culture of contemporary art and join the discussion on how art is defined. What makes a piece of art worth over 6 million dollars? How does hype, press, and notoriety affect the value of a given work? How far into the absurd can an artist push the concept of art, and how far will the world continue to agree?

Background and Game Plan

In the past, our team has created short films that were more centered around dialogue rather than action. After our last project, Love is Neat, we knew we wanted to shake things up a bit and create a story structure that was vastly different from our previous work.

The idea for the film actually came to us one morning during coffee. I had come across a startling article about how much a very specific piece of art had sold for in an auction. This news ended up sparking a discussion/rant session that lasted hours. After we finally cooled off, we decided we wanted to join the conversation of what defines something as a piece of art and what determines its worth. And what better way to do this than to create a short film, am I right?

For this film, we plan on shooting in March of 2026 in order to get a good head start on the film season as well as escape that summer heat! Our first goal is to have the film be accepted and have it's world premiere in a festival here in Louisiana. Afterwards, the film will be entered into festivals all across the world! Our previous work received a total of four official selections so our goal for Fruits of Our Labor is the double that number (maybe even triple it)!
