WHY MAKE GAY GUY FRIDAY?
Hi! Chris (the screenwriter) here!
The genesis for this film came from an intense desire to comment on and satirize our modern Gen-Z landscape and this generation’s obsession with gazing at our own navels.
I wanted to satirize concepts like my generation's voracious appetite for instant gratification, narcissistic "main character syndrome," and the pursuit of constant hedonism as a way to avoid endless internal emptiness.
As a gay man it was very important to explore these ideas through a uniquely queer lens. To show queer characters who were flawed and unsympathetic, yet realistic and relatable. Through their points of view, we get to ask deep questions like:
What happens when the worst people in the world want to have the best night ever?
What does a Gay Guy Friday even mean?
And... Why am I having so much fun?!
To make this film we have assembled a team of hilarious and talented LGBTQ+ creatives with similar mindsets and a love for making art. We all come from different backgrounds in the comedy, film, and TV world and are equally determined to tell a great story. By donating to this campaign you can help us bring our shared vision for this hilarious raunchy dark comedy to light.
Our vision for GAY GUY FRIDAY is inspired by the values instilled in us by the independent filmmakers that came before us. We are led by the 90s New Queer Cinema movement's rejection of traditional narrative structures, the determination of otherized artists to take back control and and tell stories on their own terms; all heightened through a raunchy and amoral dark comedy which allows us to laugh at the ugliest parts of ourselves. That's what interests me and my team, and we hope you feel the same.
With your help, we'll be able to make the story we want to tell: a GAY GUY FRIDAY that is aesthetically sickening, envelope-pushing, and darkly hilarious.

Hellooooo!! Thank you for reading about our film and considering donating. We really appreciate the support!
I’ve been stuck writing a few different versions of this: I’ve harped on the dangers of electric scooters and gay culture’s proximity to death and technology. I’ve observed that electric scooters are an invasive species in Los Angeles. I’ve waxed poetic about the importance of allowing queer filmmakers to tell stories that don’t have the pressure of changing the world or perfectly representing entire communities. I’ve even told a story about someone we know and love getting hit by a car on one. (He’s okay now.)
When Chris asked me to direct Gay Guy Friday, I was thrilled, and so grateful for his trust. His writing builds such a distinct and recognizable world, and I can't wait to bring it to life. As a lesbian it often feels we can be the ultimate quiet observers (and critics) of the queer world, which is the secret sauce that I believe makes us great storytellers. I’m thankful I can tell this one, and over the moon to collaborate with Chris and the rest of our team.
Donating to this campaign enables us to obtain the resources our film needs: lived in locations, a strong crew, proper equipment, and a post team to bring it all home. These things come at a cost, but are necessary to build our world and faithfully execute our vision.
The 5 friends in our film are loveable but flawed, and you can’t help but see the worst parts of yourself in them. At face value, they are selfish– but you can tell they would do anything to keep this part of their lives going, and to protect their friends. It’s the sweet spot of your late 20s / early 30s where the most important decision you can make is where you’re all going to be Friday night. It’s Bohemia. I can’t wait for you to meet them!
Gay Guy Friday was born in a group chat over a year ago. Chris made the pitch to Kate Wilkinson, Bailey Kearns, and I. It was a pitch that worked in just one text message. It’s what we like to call a creative emergency. We knew immediately that we needed to get this thing made. It’s so easy to not prioritize your own projects when you’re working long hours, and we wanted to push through that.
We are in pre production now, and when we raise the money– will shoot at the end of July 2026. We thank you in advance for your help making this dream a reality! Please follow along here on our Seed & Spark page, along with our instagram @gayguyfridaymovie. THANK YOU!
