Georgie on the Farm is a mixed-media family-friendly educational film about sustainability. It's part of an effort I'm making to make environmental education more accessible in the face of climate change. And, since discussing our environment can feel scary, I use family friendly miniatures.

Mission Statement

This film is part of a trilogy aimed at filling a gap in pediatric environmental education. As climate change becomes a more present part of our lives, climate resilience becomes more necessary. And, resilience begins with education.

The Story

"Georgie on the Farm" is a homegrown family friendly film about sustainability and companionship written & directed by Justin Linville. That’s me! I’m a writer and improviser based in Brooklyn who’s passionate about environmental education. I see environmental education as the first step forward in combating climate change.

I came up with Georgie (a little clay monster) for an upcoming film about the Newtown Creek, a historically polluted body of water in NYC. He’s meant to be a curious little fella who’s not afraid of asking questions. He mirrors the mentality we need to maintain when learning about our environment, curiosity and open to possibility.

We'll be filming this short at Shelburne Farms, an education non-profit and historic working dairy farm in Shelburne, Vermont. I chose Shelburne Farms as a follow up to our first film so we can utilize their surroundings and wealth of educational resources. We can also really play with scope at this location which works well for a story told in miniature.

Speaking of the story, this is the second in the Georgie Trilogy, following his search to find "a home and someone that loves him". At Shelburne Farms, he meets some new friends and searches for an adequate place to rest his weary head. This short is inspired by classic heartland adventures such as Oklahoma, Goonies, and The Hobbit with the late 80s/early 90s kitsch aesthetic of films like Big or Harriet the Spy. It’s an adventure with pathos, scope and plenty of quirk.

We have a small, passionate crew working on a lean budget. This is in order to maintain a small footprint with a replicable budget, two very important things to keep in mind when producing a series like this. Whatever is contributed to our Seed & Spark will be utilized to provide lodging, transportation, and outstanding production costs.

We'd love for you to contribute to our Seed & Spark to help ensure current & future generations have the information necessary to build a sustainable future.
