Mission Statement

Gettaway is an ensemble short film about the struggles of feeling trapped in one's current situation and being unable to live as you want. The film’s dual storylines highlight the dangers of abusing drugs and alcohol to cope with the hardships of love, accepting who you are, and your purpose in life

The Story

Gettaway features an incredibly talented cast and crew, primarily made up of ASU Students and Alumni. In preparation for the advertising campaign, the team and I put together a proof of concept trailer (as seen above) that featured stand in's for the characters and allowed us to test out the visuals and atmosphere of the film. All the pictures below and in the media tab are stills taken from the footage we captured. Please feel free to explore the page to learn more about the project and see what this amazing team is capable of!

The first storyline follows two frat brothers as they celebrate their final, drug-fueled night together before graduation. Their booze cruise across a college town explores the issues of abusing substances as a means of numbing any emotions or feelings you may be having. The duo is forced to look at themselves in the mirror and ask themselves how do they want to live their life and who do they want to live it with.

Our second storyline begins with Sun, a current med student on the run away from her univeristy lab. Deciding she's had enough of euthenizing lab rats, she decides to steal a cocaine rat from her univeristy lab and goes on the run with her roomate and drug-dealer boyfriend. The trio's getaway focuses on the idea of confronting who you are and how far you're willing to go to hold on to the idealogies and people you hold most dear.

My favorite stories are the ones that offer the audience a new perspective on life with unique characters that feel authentic in the world around them, and that is exactly what I want to bring to life in this project. Gettaway is a story with great amount of depth that touches upon various themes and societal issues, which has been challenging to fit all together into a cohesive whole.

At it's core, Gettaway is a drama about characters that feel trapped in their current situation or environment and must face themselves in order to become what they want to be. I believe that theme of identity and trying to figure out how you fit into this world is universally relatable. My hope is that people can latch onto these characters in the short 15-20 minutes that they have with them and have something to take away from it all.

With this film being based off of Tempe, it was important for us to capture the feeling of living in a college town. Walking down Mill and other streets at night made me attached to the idea of using neon lights and having a strong emphasis on color to help tell the story.

As Tempe is a very colorful town with barlights and stringlights everywhere, we want to put that on full display while also not shying away from the grittier, low light street level side of the story. Additionally we plan to use a Kaleidoscope filter in certain shots to further portray this theme of identity and how it fragments in the minds of these characters. We want to make sure each an every shot has a purpose to the story.

Music is a huge part of my creative process when putting a film together. I love tie-ing in sounds and beats to key narrative moments in a story. I'm so excited to have local Arizona artist YUNG CHAUZE bring his amazing songs onto the project and elevate the story we're telling. We also have two amazing composers, Sadie Azersky and Cassidy Peterson, who will be creating an original score for the film. Click on one of the images below to check out some of Yung Chauze's music and see what songs we're looking to use in the film!

Unfortunately making a film isn't free, or cheap. To get Gettaway up and running we've outlined a budget that we feel would be enough to make sure we have all the necessary components to make this project a reality.

Any donations made will go towards these areas of production needed in order to shoot the full film in April!

As an added bonus we've come up with a set of Unlockable Crowdfunding goals that will be accessible to everryone who has donated when reached.

Unlockable 20% - All who donate will be entered into multiple giveaways for signed cast and crew posters.

Unlockable 50% - If you paid $25 or more, your exclusive link will also have access to a director's commentary of the film.

Unlockable 80% - We'll film an actors rountable with our available cast and post it to social media.

Unlockable 100% - At 100% of our goal, we'll open up a vote on instagram for people to vote on a cosplay that Gabe, the director, will be required to dress up as on set. When achieved the top 3 options will be decided by everyone's vote.

If you've made it this far on the page, thank you so much for your interest in the project. Any amount of support means the world to the whole team. If you would like to stay up to date on the project, please follow the project here on Seed and Spark & on Instagram!
