Mission Statement

As aspiring artists, we see ourselves in the main character in many different ways. Through this film, we are pushing ourselves to dream as our character does. We intend to honor the spirits of every dreamer who ever dared and will ever dare to step into the spotlight--even when no one was watching.

The Story

WE DID IT, BUT WE STILL NEED HELP!

We are grateful to all our donors and supporters who are making A Dance in the Ghost Light a reality! But with just a few days in our campaign, we welcome more funding that would guarantee the completion of the film. With more funding, we could get:

Better Equipment

Bigger Crew and more Extras

And not only that, the main team of Closing Shift is working on this film for free. With additional funding, we could compensate our core team fairly for their dedication and hard work on this project. So if you can, please consider donating it! Please read our story below!

Ghosts and the Theater go hand in hand.

This film is about the love of performing and the love of theatre. We follow an overnight Janitor in an old and iconic theatre who longs to toss his broom away and become the actor he has always dreamed of being. One faithful night, the Janitor comes face-to-face with the spirits of the theatre and is pulled into a love story that pushes his dream forward. He meets the ghost of an iconic actress, who, with her performances, lit up the theater long ago, and through her, the Janitor will experience what it is to be in the spotlight for the first time. His biggest challenge will be when he is pushed center stage to perform for a room full of ghosts. He may be scared, but by his side, she is giving him the strength that only love could give you.

Every theatre has a ghost light. A single, solitary bulb that burns while the theater is otherwise unoccupied. While its primary use is safety and utility, some assert a more superstitious use. - To keep the theater’s resident ghosts company and ward off mischievous spirits. This ghost light is the anchor of our film; it represents the spirits of the past looking over the performers of the future. The ghost light also represents the theater always being ready for a new act.

The Janitor is emblematic of those longing for something more, those of us who feel stuck, whether it’s in a job or a life position or whatever it may be. He is a dreamer and an artist. After endless auditions and no reward, the spark of art began to disappear from him little by little. He has held several jobs, but none of them as a performer. In search to be closer to acting, he took a janitorial job in the most famous theater of the city. But, in here, he watches play after play, imagining himself on stage, giving up more day by day, fearing that his time might not come. The resignation floods him constantly, but his hope will be ignited again when she comes into his life.

All art is generational and mystical. Everything is built upon an inspirational foundation that has been left by the artists before us. The spirits persist, and they are there to support you and to give you a leg up. - That idea is represented in our film by the ghostly actress. She’s that voice in all of us who calls you to act upon your dreams. She was once a renowned artist and performer. Celebrated by everybody and loved by millions, in her life, she thought she had everything. But in reality, her life was lonely. She roams her old theater now in the afterlife, watching the Janitor tirelessly care for the place she's always called home, keeping her company while the theater is otherwise unoccupied.

This film is being made by artists who are longing to create a story that feels original and fresh, while also paying respect to every film and performance that came before us. And that's why we need your help. With your support and your help, we can bring this story about an artist pursuing his dream to life. This is a story as timeless as the theatre itself, and it can't be done without the support of people who, like the Janitor, are dreamers.

Thank you for reading, and we hope to break a leg soon.
