The Story

GIRLIE follows Tess, 38, whose cancer diagnosis and looming hysterectomy collide with her mother’s “help”—a storm of guilt trips, outdated beliefs, and a buried secret.
Funny, raw, and heartfelt, the film explores bodily autonomy, complex mother-daughter love, and the radical act of choosing yourself.
Tess
Hesitant and people-pleasing, Tess navigates fear, choice, and the ability to express even one complete sentence on her own behalf.
Gloria
Spiraling, sharp, and unpredictably funny, Gloria dispenses rapid-fire bursts that range from guilt to comfort to confusion.
Additional characters
A doctor doing her best to stay level-headed, a puzzled teenaged service employee, and, of course, a wacky anesthesiologist. Anesthesiologists are always so weird.
The humor in GIRLIE doesn’t come from punchlines but from the naturalistic, fragmented rhythms of conversation that heighten chaos and absurdity.
Beyond the dialogue, the tone balances stillness and disorder; quiet tension and endearing mess.
From the stark exam room to the wintery LA botanical garden, the cramped public bathroom, and the tense pre-surgery hospital room, GIRLIE moves through spaces that mix stillness, absurdity, and quiet dread.
I'm raising $15,000 for the production of this short film. That money goes toward a cast, cinematographer, crew, equipment, art department, locations, and yes—feeding people who help me make this all real. Everyone deserves to be paid and fed.
If you’ve laughed at my posts online in the last decade, maybe you’ll contribute. If you’ve ever said one of my tweets out loud, you definitely owe me money.
And if you care about reproductive health, intergenerational stories, or the power of finding humor in the middle of heartbreak, I’d love your support!
