GOOD AS GAY is a light, rhythmic, comedy about two male couples crossing paths during what should be a pleasant stroll. Polite small talk quickly turns tense when it becomes clear Greg and Gil have a romantic past and each insists they're "good." Are the other guys "good?" Perhaps too "good."

The Story
Gil was with Greg, who’s now with Gus and Greg was with Gil who’s now with Gabe. Greg and
Gus feel good on their walk as Gil and Gabe feel good on theirs too. Gus and Greg see Gil and
Gabe and now the walk is not so good. Gil meets Gus and Gus meets Gil. Greg meets Gabe and
Gabe meets Greg. They all say they’re good and speak of the past where Gil knew Gus and
Gabe knew Greg. So now they’re all good. Or are they?
Good As Gay is a rhythmic short film which anyone who’s ever been in a romantic relationship
will relate to. Who doesn’t remember that first time you saw your ex with someone new? This
film plays with the emotional tones of relationships past and present and takes them to an absurd
comedic level. It’s a good gay time!
Why Me?
As a longtime writer for The Groundlings Theatre in Los Angeles, along with two solo shows
and numerous short films, I know when I’ve written something that truly connects with an
audience when they tell me. With my solo work and short films, however, my greatest challenge
has always been waiting too long to bring them to an audience.

And so it is with Good As Gay.
This script has been sitting in my office far too long — even after inviting four actors to read it
aloud and watching the room erupt with laughter. That response confirmed what I already felt:
this story works.
Why This?
I’ve always been fascinated by human behavior. Emotional intelligence has especially interested me
far more than intellectual intelligence—though I believe both are essential. This script is my
attempt to blend the two.

I began writing Good As Gay with a simple premise: two exes unexpectedly run into each other
in a park, each with their new partner in tow. But as I wrote, the word “good” kept appearing on
the page. Eventually, the story took on a life of its own. I lost track of where I originally thought
it was going and let the wordplay guide the narrative. I think it’s important and fun for people to
experience a project created from letting go instead of holding on. Pages later, it felt like I had
solved a complex puzzle—one that revealed itself in a surprisingly humorous way.
Why Now?
In a time when human connection can feel limited and the world sometimes seems dark and
heavy, I believe humor has the power to bring out the very best in us.
One of life’s greatest medicines is a theater full of people laughing together. Whether it’s a play,
a stand-up comedy show, or a packed audience enjoying a film, there’s something magical about
that shared joy. Laughter and play release endorphins and other powerful chemicals in our brains
that help lift us up, especially during the hardest of times.
And I can’t think of a better time than now to share some laughs with our fellow brothers and
sisters around the world.
Years ago, I had the honor of sitting in a theater packed to the brim at FilmOut San Diego while
my Audience Award-winning film Day Stripper played on the big screen. For those few minutes,
the room was completely taken over by laughter and joy—and that feeling carried on long into
the night.
That’s the kind of experience I want to bring into the world again. Right now.
