In 2030, three friends go on a road trip to escape an oppressive heatwave, when their car breaks down and they must fight for survival.

Synopsis

In the year 2030, a massive heat wave hits the Phoenix metro area, causing the air conditioning unit of John, Casey, and Destiny’s shared apartment to shut down. This forces the three to pile into John’s old car and travel north to escape the heat, taking a side road through the desert to avoid the traffic. However, their car begins acting strange and then suddenly turns off, with smoke billowing out of the hood. John, Casey, and Destiny begin trekking along the road in search of refuge, but tensions continue to grow. In an explosive conclusion, after trying to stop a fight between the others, one of the three is killed in a freak accident.

Mission

This film will explore climate change and its effect on average people. Climate change is already happening, and stories like this one aren't as far away as we think. Through telling this story, I hope to ignite awareness about climate change and encourage the world to consider taking steps to stop the incoming climate catastrophe.

About Us

I have always been someone who cares deeply about social issues and telling stories. Stories have the power to change the world, opening people's minds to unexplored opportunities, imaginary worlds, and struggles that can tie back to what is really going on in our society. While humanity is facing many challenges, as always, I believe climate change is the largest issue facing our society. The rising temperatures, increased adverse weather, melting ice caps, rising sea level, and increased acidification of the ocean is already negatively affecting all of us, and it is only going to get worse unless we are actively taking steps to solve this issue.

But, no one cares. It is so disheartening for so many people in society to still not even believe in climate change, let alone be willing to make just a few small changes that would not only improve the world, but also slow climate change. So, I couldn't be quiet anymore. I need to tell the world what's going to happen to us all, before it's too late. Film, as a medium, has power, and we need to use that power for good.

A story about the near future, when places like our home, Phoenix, gets too hot to live in. An urgent story that we need to tell, before it is too late.

Where We Are Now

Heatwave is currently deep in pre-production. We have a final draft of the screenplay, and the next steps are casting our characters, finding locations, assembling the crew, and a variety of other tasks. Our goal is to film around or before March 2022, before it gets too hot outside to feasibly film for multiple days. Once filmed, we will be editing the film until around Fall 2022, at which point we will begin entering the festival circuit and trying to win awards and win funding to turn Heatwave into a feature film. However, all these things are impossible if we can't raise our minimum budget of $4000. 

Also, in regards to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will follow all local guidelines. We will require proof of vaccination from cast and crew, as well as mask wearing on set. COVID-19 is still here, and we will do everything possible to make the set the safest it can possibly be.
