Her Viscera
Minneapolis, Minnesota | Film Feature
Horror, LGBTQ
A reflection through honest and absurd imagery about queer experiences, and the illusions that manifest when subjected to harmful ideologies about the self. Queer existence is being used to create fear and hate in society, when it should be something that should be celebrated and to take pride in.

The Story
Her Viscera is an independent, queer, body horror film in the early stages of pre-production. As independent filmmakers in Minnesota, we want to create something that speaks about queerness and the horrors that many face in their personal journeys.
LOGLINE:
Two movie theater employees, David and Maria, connect by past tragedies. Shortly after an experimental film comes to their theater, the pair begin to hallucinate flesh monstrosities which possess their food. The pair must confront their repressions when one of these abominations begin to talk, bidding them to indulge in their deepest personal shames and desires.

PROOF OF CONCEPT:
This is a very special scene from the script that was filmed in March of 2025 by the Her Viscera crew. We hope you enjoy!
Synopsis:
DAVID finds himself living an endless cycle of overworking and self hate. When introduced to a new local film, “Robin’s Grave,” he begins to question his understanding of self. MARIA, David’s coworker, is often David’s crutch in his struggles. David begins to suffer from illusions that turn his food into flesh monstrosities. During a conflict with his parents, David hallucinates the ABOMINATION, the talking flesh. David argues with his parents and snaps, brutalizing himself and passing out. David wakes up in a hospital with Abom. Having not eaten in days, he forces himself to indulge in the monster.
David slowly falls under the influence of Abom. Maria, unhappily in a relationship with ANDREW, watches as the many things in her life disappear. She terminates her pregnancy. The guilt/shame cascades into illusions familiar to David. David’s indulgence of Abom causes his flesh to fall apart, his progress in “appetite” deems him able to re-enter society. He returns to find a husk that was once Maria. In his shame, he introduces her to Abom. Maria feeds Abom her shame. The monstrosity festers.
The pair combat their afflictions in hopes to save one-another. The pair execute a plot to exact revenge on those who afflicted them. Invoking the hunger, let them feast on flesh!

About This Team
Director: Brook Yager
Brook (They/she) is a local queer filmmaker who is highly interested in the horror genre, and how it can be used to connect and represent tough subjects through a wide variety of imagery and filmmaking techniques. Born and raised here in MN, she is excited to pursue film at an independent level, showcasing an array of familiar sights whilst sticking to her roots. She's very excited to create a community around Her Viscera, and looks forward to the challenges that will come with producing her first feature film. Brook is currently finishing up her degree at Metropolitan State, building off of her Minneapolis College degrees.
Director of Photography: Erin Brown
Erin Brown (they/she) is a filmmaker based in Minneapolis. They love contemplative cinema that uses the lenses of mythology, queerness, and identity to explore inner and outer worlds. Erin is a graduate of the Minneapolis College Cinema program, and since then has directed their own short film and has worked on several short film, commercial, tv pilot, and music video sets. They can usually be found in the camera department as a 1st AC (they love focus pulling!), or as a gaffer or grip. When not on set, they love taking photos on their 35mm film camera and going thrift shopping (need to collect props for future films, right?)
Editor: Kenzie Kilborn
Kenzie (they/them) has always loved making movies with their friends and family growing up, leading them to graduate from Minneapolis College’s Cinema program. As a queer person, they strive to create and tell stories that they wanted to see on TV growing up. The more they learned about film and the creative process, the more drawn they became to post production. Kenzie loves the challenge of trying to stay one step ahead of the audience, and crafting wicked sound design. Getting in the editing zone is such a euphoric experience, and they have been addicted ever since.
