The Story
PLEASE DONATE AND HELP US REACH OUR GOAL OF $20,000! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
The funds we raise through this campaign will be what makes our movie possible! With that in mind, $20,000 is the ideal amount at which we can successfully produce Here Hides the Heart.
- $20,000 - We'll be able to budget money for post-production. That means high quality editing, coloring, sound mixing and design. We'd be able to record a special version of the song "You're the Cream in My Coffee" for our soundtrack sung by our lovely Taylor Gilroy (playing JUNE).
With more funding, we can make sure our movie is the best version of itself it can be!
Stretch Goals:
- $25,000 - Gives us the ability to go all out with Production Designs and Costumes and make Mile's transformation into Milena look stunning. We can rent the highest quality camera and lenses and give our movie that classic, Golden Age of Hollywood filmic look.
- $30,000 - This level of funding would allow us to submit the finished film to festivals. All film festivals have rather steep entrance fees. So please help us get to $30,000 so our film can be seen at festivals across the globe!

It starts off as bliss, but June is soon left wondering if Mile's increasingly odd behavior is just her girlfriend's personality or a sign of possession...
June delves deeper into the mystery and discovers the ghost of a tragic Golden Age Starlet possessing Mile's body. What's worse - June starts to develop feelings for her...
Will June force the ghost to leave and die in the past, where she belongs, or let her live a new life by sacrificing Mile's body?
Here Hides the Heart is at the core a haunting love story about unfulfilled desires. June years for a real connection, someone who understands the darker parts of her... And MILENA, the ghost, wants to get a chance to live the life she never could because of the era she was born in.
They find something special in each other and a selfish desire to stay together awakens. But there is a cost - if Milena were to 'live', Mile would have to 'die'...
We'll take an old Hollywood horror lens to explore the sacrifices we make for true love. And while the tale may be dark and disturbing, it's also beautiful and sensual, and I hope it leaves you reeling with desire.

Here Hides the Heart is a story of mental health, change and transformation. All these struggles can change a person irrevocably, to a point where you might not even recognize your partner. Would you have the strength to stay with them?
I'd always been obsessed with dark and twisted love stories and how messy people can get when feelings are involved. It doesn't make them bad people; it just makes them incredibly human.
As an old Hollywood buff, I was intrigued by the alleged affair Marlene Dietrich and Greta Garbo had in their youth. So, the image of an Hollywood Starlet resembling Dietrich coming back to life as a ghost simply wouldn't leave my brain. That's how Here Hides the Heart was born - old Hollywood glamour stars meets U-Haul lesbians meets mental health trauma. And what it turned out to be is a haunting, disturbing, yet funny tale of true love. And ghosts. And U-Hauls.
My inspirations include films like Dario Argento's Deep Red, Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo and Wong Kar-wai's In the Mood for Love.
After 10 years of working in the industry with a focus on TV writing (Carnival Row, Snowpiercer), I've decided to step back into the director's chair and bring my vision of this project, as well as my style as a filmmaker to life. I hope you'll support our campaign and help make this endeavor come true. We are so excited to get started!

Currently, we're in pre-production. We have our locations, cast and crew locked in and ready to roll. We plan to shoot in March of 2024.
The funds we raise through this campaign will be what makes our movie possible! With that in mind, $20,000 is the ideal amount at which we can successfully produce Here Hides the Heart. But with more funding, we can make sure our movie is the best version of itself it can be!
After completing production and post on Here Hides the Heart, we will be submitting it to festivals around the world with a focus on Queer and Horror themes - hoping to garner wider interest from the audiences. The short will serve as a proof of concept for a feature version of this project that we hope to make as we believe there is quite a bit more to this story that deserves to be told!

About This Team
Mateja Božičević - Writer, Director, Actor
Born and raised in Zagreb, Croatia, Mateja is a TV writer who studied Film Writing and Directing at Emerson College. Mateja has since worked for ICM Partners and Marvel TV, most notably on Marvel's Daredevil. Mateja was staffed on Amazon's Carnival Row Season 2, wrote and produced an episode of Snowpiercer Season 4, and is currently working on Netflix's One Piece Season 2. Mateja's passion for visual storytelling expands into acting, as well as directing stories about morally grey people falling through the cracks of society and surviving despite all odds.
Taylor Gilroy - Producer, Actor
Taylor Gilroy is a Producer, Writer and Actress based in Los Angeles, California. She has been working in Commercial/Television Production since 2015 after she graduated from Emerson College with a degree in Visual Media Arts with a focus on writing. Working her way through the production ranks with companies such as Comedy Central, Smuggler and FX, she's honed a well-rounded understanding of the filmmaking and production process. Taylor is looking forward to bringing more of her knowledge and experience into the narrative sphere while working on Here Hides the Heart.
Amina Nada – Producer
Amina Nada is an Egyptian writer/producer based in LA. Her journey commenced in 2014 with a move to New York for an MFA in TV Production, where she secured the BBC America Diversity Award and a College Emmy nomination. Amina has left her indelible mark in the film industry, contributing to documentaries such as "Tickling Giants" and "The Dissident," along with the feature film "Mosul," now on Netflix.
Her work has premiered at esteemed film festivals, including Tribeca, Sundance, Venice, and Toronto. She produced the short film "Awayy," which recently premiered at SXSW. In her writing, she amplifies Arab voices.
Chrissy Troy – Costume Designer
Chrissy Troy studied Directing at the School of Visual Arts in New York
City. She went on to be the Costume Designer of television shows suchnas Evil Lives Here and Grave Secrets for ID Discovery. Each show revolved around retellings of real life murders that happened in the United States across different eras. Typically from the late 1960s to the early 2000s. Additional costume department experience includes Amazon's The Tick, NBC's New Amsterdam, USA's Mr Robot, Netflix's The Politican, and HBO's Gossip Girl.
Cody Pereira - Editor
Going on a decade of post-production experience in the entertainment industry, Cody has edited, managed, and colored almost every genre. From sketch comedy at Funny or Die, to horror with the Alien short films for 20th Century Fox, as well as documentaries such as the Lesbian Bar Project for The Roku Channel.
Cody believes that the editor is the first audience member to see a film. So, after a film set has wrapped and cameras are packed up, it’s his duty to keep working with a film. And when that film is ready to be shown to the world, it’s the perfect version of itself.
