The Story
During a visit to his wife, Jodie, who is suffering from dementia, Thomas is faced with the reality that she may never recognize him again. However, in a seeming moment of clarity, she calls out his name, only to confuse her doctor with her husband. The doctor is introduced as Peter and he tells Thomas to start preparing for the end. This honesty leaves Thomas reeling as he feels he hasn't been able to tell Jodie how much he loves her and now because of her dementia, she may never truly hear it. With this news, he begins to devise a plan to give both himself and Jodie the closure they deserve.
One thing I have learned over the course of my life is the importance of goodbyes. As a military kid, I used to think I had perfected the art, but as I grew up I realized there is no way to have a perfect goodbye. However, that doesn’t make them any less important and meaningful, in fact, their imperfections often make them more meaningful. That is the truth that Here With You tells and it's what attracted me to the script in the first place. The devotion that Thomas shows to Jodie in the film is also very inspiring to me. In a world where people are finding it harder and harder to connect in meaningful ways, I love watching and creating stories about the power and longevity of love. That's what I want Here With You to be: a reminder of the beauty in goodbyes and of the power in commiting to love.
Thomas is an older man who has a gruff exterior but a heart of gold. While he may treat the rest of the world with wariness, no one can deny he would do anything for the love of his life, his wife Jodie.
Jodie is an older woman who is at the end of her life after a battle with dementia. She is lost and confused in a world without her husband.
Peter is a doctor who has become hardened through his years of working in the hospital. However, after meeting Thomas he lets down his walls to help him and his wife.

About This Team
Director - Grace Maddox is a current senior at Southern Methodist University majoring in Film and Media Studies. Over the course of her time in college, she has directed two other short films called The End and Savant. The End has screened at festivals like Trinity Film Festival and Interrobang Film Festival. She has also produced the feature film Crossroads which is currently in post-production. Now, she is creating Here With You as the culmination of all that she has learned in her time at college.
Producer and Writer - Kaytlyn Bunting is a current senior at Southern Methodist University majoring in Film and Media Studies and minoring in business. She has produced several major short films including, The Dinner, Dead On Arrival and working with Grace on The End. She also produced "Crossroads" a feature length film, shot in 2022 that is currently in post-production.She is excited to use all the producing skills and knowledge she has gained in her time at school to bring Here With You to life.
