The Story
He’s Typing follows the journey of Casey, a young woman navigating the complex and often disheartening world of online dating. Determined to find love, she believes she’s finally met "the one"—until he suddenly stops responding. This unexpected silence triggers a downward emotional spiral, pulling her deepest insecurities to the surface. Casey’s Ego, Anxiety, and Self-Doubt manifest into physical form, becoming relentless companions that intensify her every thought and emotion, making her feel increasingly worthless. While grappling with the reality of being ghosted, she embarks on an introspective journey, realizing that the battle isn’t just against her love interest's silence but also against the voices within that threaten to consume her. Think of it like Inside Out, but for adults dealing with the challenges of toxic dating culture.
Our project speaks directly to the modern dating experience, where ghosting has become an all-too-common and disheartening reality. Beyond the surface-level frustration, ghosting can leave deep psychological scars—eroding self-esteem, fostering feelings of worthlessness, and even causing people to question their own reality. This film is especially relevant today as it sheds light on the emotional toll of being left in silence, capturing the absurdity and pain that many face in their search for love online.
Through a blend of humor and vulnerability, He’s Typing offers a relatable narrative that not only entertains but also provides comfort to those who have experienced the sting of ghosting. By laughing at the ridiculousness of modern dating, the film aims to create a sense of solidarity and reassurance, reminding viewers that they are not alone in their struggles.
Bright, colorful, and dreamlike, He's Typing exists in Casey's universe where everything is either going really great or really...not great. We plan to utilize Casey's home to expose the inner world of her mind through lighting, set design, and camera movement. Casey is fighting between two realities: the one where Tucker wants her and the one where Tucker doesn't remember she exists. Our film will depict the first reality where she is floating in the clouds of la la land and and then enter into the other where she is falling deeper and deeper into the dark corners of her psyche.
Our film has three main locations, a park, a coffeeshop, and an apartment. The park represents Casey's excitement, imagination, and dreamy outlook at her new relationship. The coffeeshop serves as a wake up call, where she snaps back into the noise of the world around her. The apartment represents her vulnerabilities, what she hides from the world, and most importantly all of the feelings she has been ignoring until the moment Tucker stopped responding. This space will be layered, cluttered, and grossly human. Her apartment is an extension of her mental state, and it will act as a playground of memory and self-realization for her to process her feelings.

Why do we need you? What's our plan?
We’re a team who is used to making a lot with a little, but there are many essentials areas where we need your support to make He's Typing the best it can be. Your contributions are going towards production, post-production, and festival submissions!
Pre-Production (June-August 2024): We have been working in pre-production all summer and are ready to enter into production this fall!
Production (October- November 2024): Meeting our goal will give us access to more equipment that will elevate our final product, keep our cast and crew fed and happy, make renting locations possible, and provide us with funds to rent/purchase costumes, props, and set decor.
Post Production (December-January 2025): As seen in our pitch video, our film has a lot of post production elements! 30% of our budget is dedicated to our editing process to give us more freedom to find/make great graphics, music, sound, and color. This is a film about dating app culture and we want it to feel immersed in a digital world. Amazing post-production elements will bring everything together!
Film Festivals (February-May 2025): Everyone that is a part of this project is a young professional looking to expand their skill set and make cool stuff with cool people. Help us continue to learn and grow as filmmakers and share it with others. If we reach our goal we have set aside a part of our budget to enter our short into several film festivals.
Most importantly we want to share it with you! After production is wrapped we will have tickets available to an NYC screening (or you get a free ticket at the "We're Talking..." Incentive level! ;) and later available links to view the film online. We can't wait to share this film with you, so help us hit the ground running into production! If we exceed our goal, those funds would go towards paying our incredible crew for all of their hard work on this film.
See below for our budget breakdown:
