The Story
QUEER KIDS DOING QUEER KID SH*T!
Five misfit friends scramble to save their Gay Straight Alliance from an unsympathetic principal while struggling to face the highs and lows of being queer in high school.
While we are extremely low budget, our dedicated team of queer teen filmmakers are incredibly talented with their tools! This gives us an unbelievably professional aspect to our entire series. Watch our Season 1 Trailer here:
AND NOW... SEASON 2! WE ARE NOT DONE TELLING THIS STORY YET.
If season one is about gay pride, season two is about gay wrath. Season two picks up where season one left off as the GSA struggles to navigate relationships, high school, and the return of a mysterious ex-club member with an agenda.
From Halloween to homecoming, blackmail to blacking out, reconciliation to road trips, Sarai, Mickey, Zel, Quinn, and Cohen are about to discover that coming of age isn’t a one stop destination.
WE BEGAN WITH A STORY AND NO MEANS OF GETTING IT TOLD.
It required, from the entire cast and crew, an unconditional love for living life authentically no matter the consequences. We continue to fight the uphill battle for authentic queer representation, through grueling high school coursework, intense summer heat, and an entire pandemic.
OUR GOAL IS TO REACH 500 DONORS WITHIN THE FIRST 5 DAYS OF OUR CAMPAIGN!
If we don't reach 80% of our goal, our show won't be made. We appreciate all of you. Thank you for your contribution!
NOTABLY, EVERYONE WHO CONTRIBUTES GET THE FIRST EPISODE!
Why is this a big deal? Typically only festivals and executives are allowed early access to a series before its release! Since our show will not be released publically for many months, you as a contributor have an EXCLUSIVE early viewing of our show.
Unlike most TV/movie fundraisers, we have evidence (and episodes!) to prove our capabilities as a dedicated teen collective of LGBTQ filmmakers.
For instance, we raised $10K last summer so we could film Season 1! We've been preparing for Season 2 ever since, and with your help we can set a shining example for more inclusive filmmaking from a fresh, young, authentic perspective.
IT'S A LABOR OF LOVE.
Cast and crew diversity were central to the show’s development. In terms of character diversity, they were written right into the script inspired by real people in Seattle! We went to all lengths to find the brilliant cast to express them because its what we value the most in such a revolutionary show.
"It's the only diverse queer production that feels authentic to me." — Eden Blanford (Mickey)
"It specified a young Latina woman [in the script], and normally the race breakdowns are either ambiguous or POC and I really appreciated that." — Jubilee Lopez (Sarai)
OUR SOUNDTRACK!
Our theme song is by chloe moriondo (yes!!! our theme song is by chloe moriondo!!). We also have music by Tacocat, friends of sage, and original compositions by our composers Eli Jonathan & Samara Lennoxx.
WHAT ABOUT THE PANDEMIC?
You must be unaware that we filmed the entirety of Season 1 during the pandemic last year! It didn't look like it, did it? We succeeded by prioritizing COVID safety above all else. This summer we plan to do the same. Nobody on our team got COVID and we were extra safe!
HOW DID OUR TEAM COME TOGETHER?
Casting Networks and Backstage were crucial for connecting us with the perfect actors! For crew, many thanks go to the 14/48:HS festival and TeenTix, two examples of local organizations that connected us with amazing crew members our age.
WHY ARE YOU CROWDFUNDING FOR SEASON 2 BEFORE SEASON 1 EVEN AIRS?
Hetero is a living miracle for proof that anything is possible no matter the difficulties you have to overcome. Every step of our process embraces the impossible. Despite all the hurdles to complete season 1, we were committed to press on to Season 2 in under a year.
We are filming Season 2 before Season 1 even airs because WE NEED TO. Time is of the essence since our entire team won't be teenagers forever. We can't wait for the future to throw us our opportunities, instead we have to throw in everything we got and give it our all. That is how we plan to change the world.
