The Story

I'm Coren HG, a filmmaker based in Brooklyn. This past year I wrote the script for HUNGRY CREATURES. The film tells the story of 16-year-old Tess, an only child of strong religious convictions who lives and works on her parents' dairy farm in rural Ohio. When a traumatic event upends the family's life, Tess relocates to Brooklyn for the summer to work in her aunt and uncle's restaurant, a Dutch-inspired American bistro called The Bokkenrijder. Soon, Tess begins to have violent visions. She wonders... could it all have something to do with... the food?
In my final year at NYU, I made a short film called HERE & NOW that imagined the consequences of living solely in the present. During the pandemic, I collaborated with my childhood pals to make Hi8 FRIENDS, a hybrid narrative/doc about a filmmaker who discovers mysterious images from the future. In 2023, my mom and I made a short film called NOVEMBER WITH WAWEL about an older woman who befriends a telepathic bird. This stuff calls to me! But now, I'm bringing horror into the mix. Why? Well, funny you should ask...
I started making films in 2002, when I was 11 years old. Every film I've made since — as a writer, director, assistant director, producer, composer, cinematographer, editor, etc. — has helped me grow as a storyteller and collaborator. Now I'm making my first narrative feature film! HUNGRY CREATURES is about our problematic relationship with other animals, but it also reflects a deep optimism that we can be better stewards of this earth.
Years of producing my own projects and working in the non-union film world in New York City taught me how to transcend the anguish that often accompanies low-budget filmmaking. While there's a thrill in making do with what you've got, there's also the yearning for more time, people, and resources -- especially for a feature-length film.
We've mapped out a 20-day shoot (in Brooklyn and upstate New York) and budgeted our film at just under $300,000 (aka SAG-Ultra Low Budget). This covers everything from decent pay for the cast & crew, to essential special effects.
If we can raise $35,000, that will bring us to almost 12% of our total budget. This show of support is CRUCIAL. We need to prove audience appetite for this movie in order to bring on equity investors and close the remaining budget gap. Check out our yummy incentives to see how we'll thank you for pitching in!

Follows, shares, and shouts from the rooftop!
Just as important as the donations themselves is spreading the world to potential supporters. Share the campaign with your friends and fellow cinephiles, and anyone else who you think the film might resonate with.
A smorgasbord of in-kind donations.
Truth be told, it's not all about the Benjamins. Check out our Loans section and the Hungry Creatures Registry for ways to help us secure locations, props, equipment, catering, and more. We don't just want to crowdfund, we want to crowdproduce!
Partnerships with organizations who share our values.
For this project to succeed, we need the buy-in of organizations who stand up for animal well-fare. Sanctuaries, non-dairy producers, vegan restaurant proprietors — we want to work with you, so get in touch.
Comrades for the Hungry Creatures Street Team.
Want to be an ambassador for our campaign and project? Do you love cool merch? Then sign up to become a hardcore supporter of our campaign, the film itself, and our mission to be a voice for the animals.
Just because HUNGRY CREATURES is gonna be seriously scary and scarily serious doesn't mean we're leaving fun out in the cold! Below are a couple ways you can engage with the project, its mission, and the people making it happen.
Hungry Creatures Playlist. Discover the videos our cast and crew are collecting (and making!) for inspiration and entertainment throughout the making of the film.
Chickpea Summit. Join our Discord for info about upcoming gatherings in Brooklyn where vegans and the veg-curious come together in a cozy home to talk, watch movies, read books, and snack on tasty vegan foods.
