I COULD DOM is a raunchy, hilarious, and ultimately heartfelt comedy short about sex, self-love, and coming (cumming?) into one’s own.

Mission Statement

I Could Dom is a female-driven film in a male-dominated genre (the sex comedy). A diverse team of Atlanta artists in front of and behind the camera has come together to tell the story of a woman who, after a lifetime of catering to others, is learning how to put herself first.

The Story

A people-pleaser recently back in the dating pool goes on an ill-advised date with a sexually submissive man to prove to her doubtful friends that she could totally be a dom.

June Blanford is NOT a dom. In fact, she’s only just learned what that word means from her more sexually adventurous friends, Marigold & Deb. But when they assert she could never cut it as one, June decides to jump back into the deep end of the dating pool using a kink-positive app to find and meet Jeff, a sexually submissive man who seems nice enough online. As their rendezvous progresses, June’s carefully googled facade begins to crumble, and she’ll be faced with the great challenge of every people pleaser’s life: knowing what she wants and asking for it.

Inspirations for this film are BRIGHT, EARNEST and UNAFRAID to dabble in the SURREAL.

We will evoke the claustrophobia of June's people-pleasing tendencies at the beginning and slowly release that freneticism as she begins to settle into herself.

Visual refrences from Booksmart (2019), Bridesmaids (2011), Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010) and Bridget Jones's Diary (2001)

I Could Dom is currently in pre-production with the first day of production set for June 9th, 2023.

We have an initial investment of $38,000 and are seeking to raise $8,000 that will cover the remaining costs of principle photography (e.g. locations, labor, food) and post-production (e.g. editing, sound mixing, color correction) as well as costs associated with festival submissions and film distribution.

Upon completion of post-production, our plan is to dive into a festival run followed by distribution, targeting SXSW, Slamdance, TIFF, and Tribeca for the film’s premiere (as well as subsequent screenings) along with other festivals specializing in women’s stories and comedies.

"As a People Pleaser In Recovery, it requires constant vigilance to not put myself and my needs last in ANY situation, sexual or otherwise. Throughout my life I've found myself wishing so badly to please certain people and keep them around that I was willing to do whatever they wanted. Sometimes it's made me feel awful, and sometimes it taught me something new about myself that I really liked. That’s nuance, baby. But in every interaction, I've learned a little more about myself, for better or worse.

I COULD DOM is an exploration of this side of myself, and based on the response to the script thus far it’s clear that these questions, experiences, and struggles speak to something universal and deeply felt.

In this particular time (and seemingly for people of any age), there seems to be a new urgency to ensure that we are living the lives we always imagined for ourselves and living them as the people we truly want to be. June sets out to prove something to her friends but she realizes, as we all eventually do, that life is ultimately about proving ourselves to ourselves. Disguised in a raunchy sex comedy, this film packs a surprising emotional punch that transcends sex and dating and reminds us (or at the very least reminds me) that we are not only capable of changing our lives to better fit our desires but that we deserve to do so. The work we do in service to our authentic selves is always worth it. And if you get off in the process? Icing on the cake."
