Mission Statement

Love, in all its forms, is incredibly powerful. It is a driving force that hurts and heals, that makes us feel alive, or alone. The mission of this film is to show just how powerful love is when tested in the darkest hour.

The Story

Logline: An overburdened, guilt-ridden woman is faced with a distressing ultimatum and is forced to decide the fate of her family life, and love life.

Lucy, a loving woman tormented by guilt, is struggling to keep herself from drowning under the responsibility of being her twin sister's caretaker, and keeping her long-term relationship with her boyfriend, Eric, alive. Anna, Lucy's twin sister, suffers from a traumatic brain injury that affects her long and short-term memory - freezing her in time. Lucy, on the contrary, remembers everything - a burden that stays alive with her. While Lucy wants her life filled with a loving family and a life partner, her circumstances block her from it. After dealing with a traumatic episode with Anna, an argument with Eric follows. Lucy is then faced with a distressing ultimatum: choosing between her love life, and her family life - choosing Eric or Anna.

Who will she choose? What will she lose?

Stick with us to find out how this story ends!

Hi!  I'm  Ayla Johnston

As a 6th-term acting student at Toronto Film School, I have had my short film - "I Love You Most" greenlit by an amazing panel of instructors and industry professionals.

I have been gifted this opportunity to showcase the outcome of my writing, soon-to-be directing, and acting talents - no pressure at all, right?

Truth is, I am beyond thrilled about this project.  I can't wait to bring this script to life!

Best of all, I have been able to bring together a fantastic crew.

In fact, I have attached myself to some fellow 6th-term students who have become leaders at TFS. They created MARKD Productions and together we are creating this film.

I want you to know that this is a project that will become a reality.

There's no time like the present!

The stars have aligned for me to be able to make my dream come true. I have been given the perfect chance to start my career the way I always envisioned, and I don't want to waste it. I want to make sure that this is a film that will be remembered - not just within the school, but in the industry as well.

Go big or go home, right?

The guys from MARKD Productions are committed to the success of this film to make sure it gets done well - like their award-winning documentary short and 2 other short films.

I LOVE YOU MOST touches on mental health, emotional coping, family bonds, self-sacrifice, and... love.  It is an emotional journey and needs people who will ensure the true essence of love is portrayed in its fullness from start to finish.

Everything about this film from cast, crew, storyline, and theme is all around LOVE.  Love for - what you do.  Love for - who you are. Love for - others.  Love without conditions or preconceived notions.  It is a lot easier said than done.

From a soft colour palette to simple textures and complex patterns, this film will have a production design that evokes emotion as the scenes advance.

...and that is where you come in.

We are looking to raise the money to allow us to create this film.  We also need followers to help grow awareness. Besides, we get to benefit from some perks from Seed&Spark if we hit a certain number of people to follow.

The funds are divided below and are needed for production.

In a time of financial uncertainty, your contribution will help us:

  • Pay for the basic needs of the production team.
  • Purchase the minimum technical requirements for DMT
  • Keep the set safe during the shoot.

Any additional funds over our campaign goal will be used to execute the marketing goals of being in festivals around the world.

The most important is if you can follow us here on Seed & Spark...  IT'S FREE!!

You can also make your contribution by choosing any of the incentives.

I know you have a choice... and it would mean a lot if you would support our efforts in making this short film.  You will be a huge hit on this set.

THANK YOU!

About This Team

AYLA JOHNSTON - Co-Director

After graduating from Brock University and becoming a teacher at 24, Ayla decided to switch streams and pursue her dream of acting by attending Toronto Film School. She loved the film industry, all the behind-the-scenes action, and the idea of telling stories in a visual medium. Now, she's finally able to live her dream to the fullest by having her own short film be greenlit by industry professionals. She dreams of having her film go to festivals and to ensure her future success, as well as the success of her team.

KARIANNE TAKLO - Co-Director

Karianne’s post-secondary education started at Nord University in Norway.  For 3 years she took English and linguistics, then did one-year in history. During her time at Nord U. she was a student representative for faculty education and arts, which taught her about leadership. She has worked as a tour guide, supervisor, and chef/barista at a popular café in her hometown. Currently, in Film Production at Toronto Film School, she has created and directed projects including a commercial, music video, documentary, and cold opening “Vote for Berry”, which was selected in a TFS course's hall of fame.  Her goal is to create and be part of documentaries and feature films as a cinematographer and director.

NICO ASARI - Co-Producer

After graduating high school, Nico moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia where she graduated on Dean's List with a major in Sociology and a minor in Creative Writing from Dalhousie University. She returned to her hometown of Toronto to pursue Film Production at Toronto Film School. Since then, she's been building her craft, volunteering on student sets doing a multitude of crew roles. Her passion is in telling stories about the human experience and having her characters be relatable to anyone no matter the age, gender, ethnicity etc.

MATT WORTHINGTON - Co-Producer

I have loved movies since I was a kid. My creative outlet first began in art class, what started as little drawings turned into larger scale paintings and now it has become filmmaking. In high school I always had the most fun in my school's film course and amongst the class I was part of the top. This continued at TFS where I have made the Honours list and President's list for the past 3 terms. I have already been part of 1 thesis film at TFS and hope to increase my resume with being on as many sets as possible for the remainder of my time at TFS.

DIEGO ALDANA - Director of Photography

I’ve been filming different types of video content for years. Creating various commercials and music videos before coming to film school. I’ve worked on various big projects over the last 2 years, 3 of them being while at TFS. Working on 2 actors’ greenlit scripts and 1 writing student’s script as the DP. I believe what makes my cinematography good, is 1) Knowing the technicalities of the equipment I’m working with, 2) Having a distinct creative eye, and 3) Being able to collaborate and communicate very well with directors in order to make our visions come to life. The process of planning and filming is what I love the most about cinematography. Being able to start from zero and end up with something is what drives me to always be creating and bettering myself.

KEVIN HUHN - 1st AD

At 57 years old, Kevin made a life-altering decision to return to school in 2021.  After chasing his boyhood dream for 37 years (making it to pro hockey) and working in the corporate world, he made the change to let out his creativity using the big screen, by registering in Film Production at TFS.  Prior to school, he produced and hosted a TV show, radio show, and 2 podcasts. His commitment to film production at TFS has seen him produce his own Documentary Short Film - Teen Across Canada, an award-winning production in numerous festivals and competitions.

ROBERT SMITH - 1st AC

Having studied nursing at a young age, Robert transferred his caring creative skillset into Tattooing.  With his 15 years of experience as a Tattoo Artist and other work experience across North America, Robert decided to enroll at Toronto Film School. He has completed his 4th term in the film production program turning his visual eye from a colourful pigment palette to a colourful screen-designing cinematographer.  In his short time at TFS, he is able to lay claim to being an award-winning Director on the Documentary Short Film - Teen Across Canada.  Humbled in his development and accolades, he considers TFS to be a blessing for him.

ALEXANDRE BELKE - Script Supervisor

Alex is a 20-year-old Algonquin College Television Broadcasting graduate who decided to take a step into the world of FILM. He has also completed a CO-OP with RogersTV, helping them Direct multiple segments and work with preparing the guests for their experience on television. With a passion for Directing, Scriptwriting and Producing, he pushes himself to exceed the expectations of every task given in order to perfect his work ethic. As a Term 4 student who has worked on a couple Thesis Film and multiple Live and Remote Television sets, he has learned to be punctual, efficient, organized and to be a leader and/or follower when needed.
