Incandescent is more than a regular coming-of-age story. It's a reflection on how music and art shape who we are and what we leave in the world. Logline: A painfully shy child finds their voice through music, turning silence into sound as a concept album scores their coming-of-age journey.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to reveal how art becomes a mirror for self-discovery, voice, and community. This story invites the audience to reflect on their own journey of self-discovery through a lens of vulnerability, growth, and the courage it takes to be heard.

The Story

Incandescent is an experimental coming-of-age short film that follows the formative years of Ash, a painfully shy child who discovers their voice through music. The film focuses on themes of identity, self-expression, music, and connection.

Logline: A painfully shy child finds their voice through music, turning silence into sound as a concept album scores their coming-of-age journey.

Synopsis: Ash, once a quiet child who discovers an unexpected connection to music one night, grows into a reserved teen practicing in solitude. A moment of encouragement nudges Ash toward sharing their music, opening the door to new connections and a small but meaningful community. Years later, Incandescent is formed, emerging alongside a new chapter of Ash’s life.

The Look

Our Director of Photography, Ian Bair, is designing the look of Incandescent. The look is based on each chapter and the location where it takes place. A mood board of the overall look was compiled by Hannah Sobieck, the director, with composition and lighting comps compiled by Ian Bair.

There is always a risk in investing. On Seed & Spark, we need to reach the 80% mark to get greenlit to receive any money from the campaign. This is why we need your support so deeply to bring this film to life. Music and art have a power to bring people together and we believe this film can do just that!

Why Now?

Incandescent exists because of community. Supporting the film helps bring an intimate, music-driven story to life that celebrates music as a quiet force for connection, reflection, and belonging.

Incandescent also uplifts emerging artists, young creatives, and local musicians, while giving student filmmakers the chance to pour our hearts into a story we deeply believe in and share it with the world.

Incandescent is a story about making art as a source of self-expression. With all that is going on in the world, art and music are incredibly important in bringing us together and allowing us to feel seen, understood, and less alone.

Why Us?

While Incandescent isn’t the story of how I fell in love with music, it still comes from a very personal place. Music has always been my greatest passion as it’s the art form that has shaped how I understand myself and the world. Film allows me to bring all forms of art together, combining my love for cinematography, acting, music, and design to create something meaningful.

This project lives at the intersection of those passions, with music guiding every aspect. I couldn’t imagine a better story to tell as my senior capstone film as it reflects growing up, finding your voice, and putting yourself out into the world, which is exactly what I am doing.

-Hannah Sobieck (Director)

As student filmmakers and emerging artists, we’re creating Incandescent with intention, collaboration, and care. We’re committed to uplifting local musicians, supporting young creatives, and making a film that reflects the honesty of our own creative journeys.

This isn’t just a project for us. It’s a story we believe in, built by community, and made to be shared.
