A NOTE FROM JOSEPHINE CASHMAN, SCREENWRITER
Incurable is a quirky and fresh dramedy that shifts between reality and fantasy. Fantasy and dreams can help us face difficult truths and fears, and I was inspired by the works of Michel Gondry and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
I want to show the emotional, 'human' side of living with a chronic illness. Autoimmune diseases are unpredictable and frightening. The science of autoimmune diseases, especially Multiple Sclerosis, is daunting. Facts are dry; statistics are alarming.... Often the human experience gets lost in the scientific shuffle, and when something is labeled “a progressive disease,” it conjures up the worst and most terrifying outcomes. But Incurable isn’t a film about a disease, it’s about the human side of living with one.
In a broader sense, I think that when it comes to relationships, people often fear that “if they know who I really am, they won't love me.” But is that true? This film addresses that issue in a whimsical and offbeat way.
Trina never wanted to tell anyone about the incurable disease she hides: Multiple Sclerosis.
Now she wants to tell the man she loves - but her fears come to life as she imagines his reaction. She wonders if she might be more than the secret she keeps. Will she surrender to her fears, or will she confront them?
We quickly found the perfect 'Nick' in actor Carson Lee,
in addition to Heidi Armbruster as 'Liz' and
Marinda Anderson as 'Caroline', Trina’s best friends.
Filmmaking is a bit like being a magician; you need the right combination of imaginative and talented people, energy, patience, tenacity and yes, resources to bring a story to life.
We went about assembling the most talented people, and best production and post-production teams we could find, including award-winning director Michelle Bossy and Cinematographer Saro Varjabedian. We aimed to bring together an extraordinary team - and we definitely did!
Box 296 Productions focuses on characters who feel out of place: people who are seeking connection in today’s perplexing, quirky, tumultuous and ultimately unknowable world. We strive to be female driven on both sides of the camera.
That's you! We hope you'll join our community.
Here's what we are hoping to do:
We have to finish post-production: this includes Editing, Sound Mixing, Color Correction, Music Composition, Marketing, and getting the film out to major Film Festivals.
To do this we will need your support.
Here's what you can do:
1) CONTRIBUTE to this campaign! We've even included incentives at each level!
2) FOLLOW this campaign! Not ready to contribute? Follow our journey to receive sneak peaks, behind the scenes looks and updates on the project! Plus, gathering followers unlocks filmmakers’ perks provided by Seed&Spark, including Film Festival waivers!
