Invite the Devil to Come and Play tells the age-old tale of the starving artist in a darker light. Oliver Russell struggles to find happiness in the humdrum world of profit and success his loved ones so cherish. Instead, he cultivates an unexpected audience for his compositions.

Mission Statement

The creators set out with one goal in mind: tell Oliver's story. The screenplay alone attracted a diverse cast & crew of musicians & non-musicians alike. These artists drew from varied backgrounds to elevate the tale to new heights, compensating for the low-budget reality all indie filmmakers face.

The Story

Invite the Devil to Come and Play is a passion project started by two friends in Columbia, South Carolina early in 2019.  Charles Brown wrote a script for a horror film and, not knowing what to do with it, gave it to his friend L L Gaddy III to see what he thought.  L L--himself an eccentric composer who had a little bit of audio and video know-how--loved it and immediately set about figuring out a way to produce the film.

What started off as a fun project with friends quickly became a more serious endeavor after the casting process yielded three great lead actors:  Carlton Wilson as Oliver Russell, Elicia Moore as Elise Russell, and Dustin Vanhoose as Gary Norman.  Working with this cast inspired the crew to step up their game--these actors all had day jobs, so if they could produce work at a professional level, then the crew ought to as well.

After months of fast-paced learning, rehearsal, and scheduling, principle photography went better than anyone could have expected.  For a little over three months, every one devoted their weekends, finances, and social life to making this project a reality.  We were about a month away from completing filming when COVID-19 hit.  As amateurs, we prepared ourselves for the worst-case scenario for every step of the process, but, we have to admit:  a pandemic collapse of society was not something we planned for. As soon as it became safe enough to shoot again, we got back on the horse and we're almost finished shooting this movie!

We're asking you to help us make this project the best it can be. We still have the budget to finish up filming, but then we'll be out of funds for post-production and distribution. We've put so much into this movie, and we want the world to see it.  Your help can make that happen.
