Mission Statement

We are an all female team passionate about narratives that encourage bravery and empowerment. This film examines the connection between social anxiety and social media. We want to inspire our audience to embrace their authentic selves as they watch our heroine Clara face her fears head-on.

The Story

"I Propose We Break Up"

When Clara's Prince Charming gets cold feet after her dream proposal, wedding-obsessed Clara embarks on a journey unravelling the filters that have kept her from ever truly choosing herself.

Hey guys! I'm Vanessa Boss, Executive Producer and Writer of "I Propose We Break Up." As you can see below, I'm pretty excited about wearing this veil ;) The fairytale of getting married is something I very much get excited about...the ring, the dress...a destination wedding perhaps? Maybe I watch too much of The Bachelor...but the little girl in me still loves to daydream for when my magical day will come...

But don't I look like a pretty princess? #socute #obsessed

I started writing "I Propose We Break Up" back in 2019 while navigating my FIRST breakup and as we all know...breakups SUCK! But what makes them suck less is seeing how your family and friends rally in support of you and seeing how love is all around us. Sometimes in relationships we can fall in love with an idea or a fantasy of how we wish things would be vs. reality and that was something I wanted to explore in the story of this film.

I Propose We Break Up is about a social media influencer, Clara, whose dreams come true when she finally gets engaged. All Clara's ever wanted is to feel chosen, but when her fiance postpones the wedding Clara realizes she's lost touch of who she truly is behind the filter. With the help of a therapist she meets on instagram, Clara combats her social anxiety, makes new friends and learns that true love can arise from unexpected places.

Important Themes

Social Media, Marriage and Relationships

The millenial perspective on marriage is dynamic. Fewer of us are married than previous generations and those of us who get married are marrying later in life. Some of us still see marriage as a personal milestone while others view it as an outdated tradition. Even more interesting is seeing the role social media has played in modernizing the marriage fantasy!

Now we see popular reality shows tugging on marriage heartstrings! The reality is, the marriage industry is still booming and not only are we comparing ourselves to others on social media but we are also comparing our relationships and life stages. Dating shows are a great example of how influencers are looking for love but also to advance their careers/social media following. In "I Propose We Break Up," we show that experience through Brent's character who despite loving Clara, sees a proposal as an opportunity to gain new followers/clientele for his realty business. When we share our lives on social media as a business strategy, the lines get blurred on what is authentic vs. showcasing for proffesional gain.

Social media is a world where we can live out our fantasies by following people who live lives that we want to live. It's a place for connection, and now that we are in a pandemic, one of the vital ways we stay connected to one another. But in-person connection vs. connecting on social media are two very different experiences. The danger of social media is that it can exascerbate loneliness and unhealthy comparison.

Clara's gotten used to living behind the mask of her social media profile, more focused on how she is seen by her fiance and followers than how she feels about her quality of connection in her relationships.

The Importance of Friendship, Codependency and Life Balance

Another important theme of the film is the importance of being able to ask for help and depend on others without codependency. Clara seeks help from a therapist and learns how allowing her friends to see her for who she truly is, enriches her life.

Our Genre: Dramedy

I've been calling this film a self-love romantic comedy, because instead of Clara's mission being to fall in love with someone else, her mission is to learn to fall in love with herself. To find her voice, and what she truly wants. Filled with heartfelt moments and quirky millenial comedy, this story is sure to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside!

Why This Film?

We need more stories that are empowering and engaging where self-love is the ultimate goal. This film is a feel-good, heartwarming story that is charming while also being a love story about friendship and self-care. We want to spread joy! And boy do we need it! By giving to our film, we are inviting you into our virtual homes to follow our journey in the creation of this film and you will be a part of it every step of the way.

Covid-19

Creating this film during a pandemic is a challenge but one that our experienced team is fully prepared to face. Our crew members have worked on numerous professional sets during this time and as a team we have studied the neccessary steps required to keep everyone involved safe and healthy. We will be following the guidelines of the CDC and testing our entire team regularly while using masks and safe-distance. We look forward to being able to compensate everyone who works on this project and providing jobs during this time in a protected environment. We will specifically be hiring a covid compliant monitor to be on set at all times to ensure that all members are adhering to the reccomendations of the CDC.

What We Need!

We aim to create a film of quality while providing jobs by compensating our extraordinarily talented artists and crew. We have put together a very specific budget allocating where your funds are going to support the film. We will be using 70% of our budget on production, 25% on post-production, and 5% on festival submission fees and costs.

Ultimate Goals

We have high aspirations for "I Propose We Break Up" and we are thrilled to take you on the journey with us. We plan to submit our film to multiple film festivals as well as use it as a pitching tool for an eventual series or feature we could see on platforms such as Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime. We are currently in our pre-production process with plans to begin shooting in mid-January/February 2021. We could not make this film without you and on behalf of our entire team we are SO SO GRATEFUL! We are ready to make you proud!
