It’s Organic is a witchcraft horror and a satirical take on the toxic relationship stereotypes in the lesbian community.

The film follows Maya, a career-driven lesbian woman, who gets broken up with by Cherry on their anniversary date over undercommunicated, piled-up reasons. 

One night two weeks after their breakup, Maya receives an email from her former ex-girlfriend turned friend, Helena, about a curse ritual she bought from them a few moons ago. Maya can be careless, like she’s been in most of her relationships. Blinded by rage and impulse, she attempts to follow through with the hex, accidentally making a chain of mistakes throughout the process.

Whether it’s been doomed from the moment she conducted an evil spell provided by another possibly malicious ex-girlfriend, or due to her state of mind and unclear intentions, or from her sloppy ritual operation, things take a turn for the worse.

The Tone

Growing up with mostly cisgender, heterosexual media, I didn’t realize I was a lesbian until college days. Even now that we live in a more accepting society than a decade ago, queer representation still feels scarce, most especially sapphic stories, and the ones we currently have are predominantly either tragic or historical. I want more unhinged lesbianism, like the show The L Word (2004-2009) and the movie Bottoms (2023). As a huge fan of horror, I want to create a film like the aforementioned media, but in a scary and sinister atmosphere and storytelling.

Where are your contributions going?

I wrote the screenplay for It’s Organic, and I will also be directing, producing, and basically wearing many hats for the film. I can’t, however, fund the entire production myself, especially as a minimum-wage worker, and still aim to make it well-made.

Although this is a micro-budget film, movie-making still requires costs that a one-person aspiring filmmaker simply cannot afford. I am looking to raise a little over $3,000 to cover the entire production, including:

• paying the cast

• production equipment (camera lenses, sound gear, lighting)

• costumes, transportation, locations

• post-production costs (music licensing and editing software), and;

• hopefully, a local theater screening prior to digital release.
