SYNOPSIS:
In this award-winning (8) eight-episode, proof-of-concept docuseries, three bachelors re-embark into the dating scene -- some for their first time, and others hopefully for their last! While receiving expert guidance on healthy relationships, sex, and vulnerability, the niches and experiences of modern queer dating will be tossed aside as our bachelors find themselves in the midst of personal growth while attending individual and group mental health therapy sessions.
Along their journeys of receiving clinical coaching and support, they'll also receive tools to help unpack baggage and trauma from previous relationships so that they don’t take them into the new ones they’re starting to build.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“What if reality TV could be constructive? Could be art? Could be queer without being a freak show or exploitative? That is the task that Anthony L. Williams of Second Glance Productions has set himself with It's Not You, It's Me. [It's] a compelling watch…I am hooked...INYIM doesn't reduce the trope to a game show. [It's] charming and relatable. If the teasers of where the series is going are to be believed, INYIM takes a real turn from a reality TV dating show to a dramatic documentary.”

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT:
They say you don’t know what you don’t know, until you know!
This show comes straight from the journal pages of my life. I used to give away my self-worth like I was tossing out condoms at a pride parade. When those relationships ended, I was left feeling like I wasn’t good enough for anyone or anything. Life forced me to take a hard look at what I’d allowed myself to become and climb up to who I wanted to be.
I got a therapist, for the second time in my life, and learned that the pain, unforgiveness, and lack of closure I thought I’d released from previous relationships was still imprinting itself on every relationship I’d built since. I had to acknowledge and dig up the pain I had buried and start the hard work of unpacking it, all the while wondering if it was truly really worth the hurt and discomfort of doing so. At some point in my healing journey, I realized I wasn’t alone in dealing with some pretty heavy stuff, and figured that if I can find some semblance of strength to get through it, I wanted to help others do the same.

PRODUCTION:
The idea for It's Not You. It's Me was born in the summer of 2020, and after years of conversation and development with our creative team, we knew we wanted to create something innovative that hasn't necessarily been done before -- something that would not only entertain but help others along the way. After years of back and forth, pitching to any honest queen in the community that would hear us, we began to get a feel for what was missing in the media landscape and the community was truly craving.
As is often the case with most indie production teams, we were met with the familiar challenges of acquiring funding. So we stopped waiting around for permission and rallied for local microgrant funding and community support combined with literally every dime in our pocket, personal investment, and nothing but prayers! We believed we were stepping into something we knew deep down was going to be truly special.

Our intention was to capture enough content to put together a trailer to represent a proof-of-concept for a new show. With the show creator's extensive 15-year track record in producing unscripted and documentary-style network tv series for History Channel, National Geographic, A&E, The Travel Channel, Food Network, Investigative Discovery, and more, we knew that we essentially only had one shot to get this right. We worked to develop as much as we could beforehand in order to create a framework that accurately portrayed what we wanted the show to display.

This framework set the stage for what you see in the trailer (and first two episodes) -- who the bachelors are, their lived experiences and the challenges they were representing, and the goals and outcomes they were hoping to accomplish along their journey. We chose to craft INYIM this way to serve as an example of who and what the show could represent and the topics it's bold enough to discuss.
Believe it or not, we developed the show's structure in a way that we walked away from the shoot with 6TB (yup, TERABITES) worth of footage in just 5 DAYS OF PRODUCTION -- 27 dates across the city of Chicago in 3 days, 1 day devoted to all things therapy, and the final day set aside for interviews to process the entire experience.

When we sat down to map out what we'd shot, we discovered we had enough footage to curate an entire 8-episode pilot SEASON of the show, more than we could've ever imagined going in!
Needless to say, the results were astounding!
