A carefree desert trip turns into a chilling portrait of how true-crime culture feeds on human suffering under the guise of justice. Through the eyes of its victims, and those who profit off of their pain, the film asks: When tragedy becomes content, who gets to tell the story?

Mission Statement

JANE'S BACHELORETTE WEEKEND blends found footage with the true-crime genre, feeding our insatiable appetite for real life horror in order to confront it. How could we dramatize the worst day of someone's life? This mock-umentary will show you 'how'.

The Story

their proposal video

their engagement party

their bachelorette weekend

until eventually we're watching their deaths.

Our new friends are killed in front of our eyes: then we're forced to watch their story be exploited by the media.

Their families are re-traumatized

Their secrets are spilt

Their stories re-written...

But damn, if the documentarians don't know how to lure us in!

We want our audience to question their own curiosity.

America has an insatiable appetite for women in peril, and this film forces us to ask:

Why do we want to watch the worst (and often last) day in someone's life?

The film draws visual inspiration from The Blair Witch Project, Creep, Amanda Knox, REC, and Paradise Lost, blending home-video intimacy with investigative realism.

In 2008, Isabel used her camcorder as a diary. She filmed her proposal to her girlfriend Jane. Then, Isabel filmed as she surprised Jane with a bachelorette weekend getaway in the desert. The happy couple and their friends piled into the car, the camera rolling...

But at the house, things felt off: doors locked, cabinets zip-tied shut, surveillance cameras everywhere, and inexplicable sounds startling the girls in the night. But the group was determined to have the best weekend of their lives. So they partied on, capturing it all on tape.

But they didn't know their next night would be their last.

Cell service vanished, and one by one, the women disappeared from the house. Isabel and Jane were able to flee. They ran through the pitch black desert night, but then he found them.

The killer, the owner of the rental house who tracked them, stalked them, and killed them.

Years later, a hiker discovers Isabel's thought-to-be-destroyed camcorder, providing crucial evidence on the unsolved murders. With this-newly found perspective of the weekend, a documentary crew creates JANE'S BACHELORETTE WEEKEND, reconstructing the girls' horrifying final days from two sources: Isabel’s camcorder and the killer’s surveillance tapes.

Jane's religious parents set a hostile tone for the documentary. Pointing fingers and spitting abuses, their lens overshadows the truth told in the Isabel tapes. A whole other perspective is lost as interviews splinter reality and then, more lies and betrayal come to the surface.

But, only one person knows what really happened that weekend, and we hear all about it in one final explosive interview.
