Mission Statement

As young people we dream big, our eyes filled with wonder for what we might one day accomplish. Jules embodies that want inside us. This film is for anyone who has tried to chase their dreams. Our mission is to create an immersive world that takes you to a place that only exists in imagination.

The Story

After a robbery gone wrong and a manufacturing mishap, Metz & Sons Grocery becomes the unlikely home for a stolen jewel necklace hidden in a jar of capers. Enter Jules, the naive stock boy at Metz & Sons who dreams of pursuing a life in showbiz alongside his pals Jim and Jane. But when jewel thief, Lucien Lester, poses as a new employee with a proposition to rob their boss, Mr. Metz, the trio must decide whether to risk it all for a shot at making their dreams come true.

At its heart, Jeepers Capers is about young people standing at the edge of their lives, tempted by shortcuts, and unsure whether integrity or ambition will carry them further. We are all in need of a story that acknowledges uncertainty without surrendering to cynicism. For a joy that doesn’t feel naive, but resilient. Jeepers Capers is an ode to the movies that taught us how to laugh while the ground was shifting beneath our feet. It is a film that will show you that living loudly is a gift and making mistakes is a rite of passage that connects us all. That community can be found within shared dreams and held together by the collective pursuit of them.

Jeepers Capers is inspired by the brilliant films of the 1930s, most notably those from Fred Astaire, the Marx Brothers, and Ernst Lubitsch. Like these films, Jeepers Capers hopes to become a story that can spark joy, hope, and excitement even in times of trouble. These films are capable of providing comfort and nostalgia, of making you feel safe, as if you’re in a dream. That is the feeling Jeepers Capers hopes to ignite in every person who watches it. A sense of being home, surrounded by those you love, full of anticipation for what the future might hold. To accomplish this, we are shooting on raw film stock and replicating the style of monochromatic film. This familiar film style is a big part of what makes Jeepers Capers stand out, and a major reason why its familiarity makes it an immediate comfort movie.

I’ve conceived of this film as a collage of cinematic influences spanning the decades, but it is no accident that the chief inspirations are rooted in the 1930s; I wanted to make an ode to Jewish emigrant filmmakers like Ernst Lubitsch and Billy Wilder who came to Hollywood fleeing Europe and made sparkling yet subversive comedies even against a backdrop of economic instability and rising fascism. We are not in dissimilar times now, and I hope that Jeepers Capers can likewise spark joy while hauntologically evoking a past that only ever existed on the silver screen.

Your support helps make every part of production possible. Contributions will go toward essential costs like raw film stock to capture the look and feel of the story, building all of our sets and sourcing production design materials, transporting our sets to and from the studio, providing meals for our cast and crew during the long filming hours, and renting the equipment we need to shoot, light, and record sound. Because of your support, we can bring every scene, set, and character to life, creating a film full of heart and attention to detail.

To those who contribute $75 or more, you will receive early online access to Jeepers Capers during our festival run. After our festival run is complete, the final film will be published online for all to watch!
