Mission Statement

We've been trying to tell this story for years, but the timing wasn't right. When covid hit, George, inspired by his late dad’s ability to turn any negative into positive, decided to team up with his best friend Maytal to bring laughter and love to a world in pain, in the form of a feel-good sitcom.

The Story

Jimmy's and Jenny's features two shows in one: a modern sitcom about a Greek diner in the present, and a feel-good throwback show about that same diner in the 80s. It's a contrast between today's fast-paced, tech-consumed world and “simpler times” prior to the internet generation.

The two sync up as our six main characters come together and learn through flashbacks to find answers for the present.

The show is diverse. No matter who you are or how messed up your life is, everyone is accepted in this fun, loving, warm and wacky diner. It has Greek roots, but it’s really about everyone. At its core, it’s about getting along, helping each other out, and creating a diverse family of friendships.

Heartwarming to GenX, reminiscent for Boomers, & featuring lessons for Millennials and Zoomers, this multicultural, multigenerational diner is proof we all have more in common as humans than that which divides us.

WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?

Dealing with failure in both career and love life, irresponsible man-child George, buys and tries to run his late dad‘s old diner while managing his eccentric cousins as his staff, getting inspiration from his late parents through flashbacks, and constantly getting yelled at by his best friend Maya... who is reluctantly running the diner for him.

PILOT DESCRIPTION:

Living on Long Island, George, our main character, is a Greek-American in his 40s obsessed with comic books and the NY Yankees.

With his acting career failing and having discovered the love of his life, Gina, just got engaged, George feels his life is at a crossroads and seeks advice from his best friend, Maya, a divorced, feisty Israeli.

Convinced happiness awaits her in New Orleans, Maya seizes this opportunity to help both herself and George. She pushes him to finally grow up and buy her Diner, so she can leave for her own dream of starting a more care-free life in New Orleans.

A flashback to his happy childhood in the 80s, when that same diner was owned by his late dad, convinces George to buy it, since he feels this magical diner is the only place he can truly feel at home.

Lacking funds, George turns to his uncle, who agrees to invest under specific conditions. Since George is clueless about running a business, his uncle demands that Maya help George run the diner and that he hire his eccentric cousins as his staff. These conditions force Maya to hold off on her dream. For now, she is stuck helping George prove his competence to his uncle by teaching him responsibility, how to run the business and how to manage his chaotic and unprofessional cousins.

THE HEART:

The flashbacks to the 80’s, back when that diner was owned by George’s parents (Jimmy and Jenny), help George find clarity and answers to his struggles in the present. They are insightful and allow the audience to explore George’s childhood and his parents’ lives as Greek immigrants in 1980's America. They make this show into a charming dual experience.

The Kookoos! (AKA our supporting characters):

Valerie is Maya’s best friend and a waitress at the diner. She is free-spirited, obsessed with social media, doesn’t take her job too seriously, but super loyal to Maya.

Nick is George’s cousin, a real goofball with a side of mystery. He is the busboy at the diner and has a huge crush on Valerie.

Cathy is George’s cousin and is also a waitress at the diner. She is married with two kids and is quick-tongued and tough as nails.

Telly is George’s cousin from Greece. He’s only been in America for a couple of years. He is the eccentric cook, and self-proclaimed greatest chef in Greek cuisine who thinks this diner is beneath him.

The chaos comes to a screeching halt when George’s ex, Gina walks into the diner….

WHY US? WHY NOW?

The creators of the show, George and Maytal, have been trying to write this show for years, but were always busy with other projects that came up. George was about to star in an off-broadway production, and felt like he was about to get his major break… but then Covid hit. Broadway along with NYC and the rest of the world got shut down. This was heartbreaking and a huge turning point.

Inspired by his late dad’s positive attitude and ability to turn any negative situation into a positive one, George decided to turn this heartbreak into an opportunity to finally write and film this pilot, which is based on his hero, his dad, Jimmy!

Maytal and George turned this horrible situation around and decided to bring laughter and love to a world in pain, in the form of a feel-good sitcom, that everyone can relate to and enjoy!

***We will have a Covid compliance officer to ensure a safe set in accordance with all regulations.

WHAT WE NEED:

Why 35K? We are making a SITCOM pilot. That’s a massive (and delightful) endeavor. This money not only goes to building our set, it goes to all the wonderful people working on our set as well as post-production.

We want to make sure we tell a great story of Greek and Isreali heritage, with the production quality to match. We’ve already secured a studio space to shoot this production (so exciting!), but we need to pay all the talented people.

We even have FIFTY episodes/FIVE seasons in the pipeline.

This is just the beginning, and you can be involved from the start.

Here’s a short breakdown of what things cost in this industry:

   Average Network Pilot: $3.5 Million
   Average Indie Pilot: $200K
   What We Need: $35K
Average Cost of a diner cup of coffee: $2 (Just felt we should include it)

That’s $35K in 45 days!  Check out our WISHLIST!

If we go beyond our goal?! OPÀ! We have some great additions up our sleeves...

FINAL GOAL: $60K. If we get this, we will shoot more content AND hire a PR team to get us Emmy buzz and some fabulous press!

This is the ultimate goal, and with your help, we know we can make something everyone can enjoy... and with the quality of a Greek Grandmother’s family Souvlaki recipe!
