Judge Mint's Follies is writer-director Devon Green's debut feature film that simply cannot exist without your help! It's a surreal screwball comedy in the vain of Albert Brooks's early films and if you care about supporting grassroots low-budget filmmaking, this is a project worth backing. Join us!

Mission Statement

Devon Green’s Judge Mint’s Follies is a satirical examination of moral self-righteousness in today’s cultural climate. The film is a starting point to a discussion of issues of compassion and authenticity as well an attempt to forge new channels for truly independent film development and production.

The Story

Judge Mint’s Follies - A Feature Film Project:

All rise…

Ladies and gentlemen of Seed&Spark, I’d like to ask you a question: do you ever feel as though you and your peers have been stuck in the deliberation room for too long? That we- as a society- have become deadlocked in the pursuit of a new day, and a new form of cinematic justice? Well, if so, I’ve got good news for you. The verdict is in, and that new day is here…

My name is Devon Green, and I am the writer and director of an upcoming feature film project entitled Judge Mint’s Follies. This audacious and exciting satirical comedy follows the misadventures of the titular hero, Judge T. Mint, as he embarks on a surreal and extremely ill-advised odyssey to save society by using his popular reality court room TV show (Judge Mint’s Justice Hour) as a vessel to explore new forms of justice in America. Along the way he meets a whole host of misfits who will change his life forever, including a cursed DJ, a bailiff with a heart of gold, and a possible domestic terrorist who just might be the love of his life…

A  lovingly crafted jumble of experimental comedy, social criticism, classic movie romance and early Albert Brooks-inspired neuroticism, Judge Mint’s Follies is a DIY classic in the making- a true testament to the power of life, liberty and the pursuit of (artistic) freedom. All that, plus it features a scene where Judge rides a giant gavel through the sky, Dr. Strangelove style!

Who we are and what we’re doing:

Judge Mint’s Follies has been in the making for over a year, beginning when writer-director Devon Green wrote the script in the first month of the pandemic while hiding out in an empty, furniture-less house in the Las Vegas suburbs. With the help of his director of photography Jordan Holtane and producer/assistant director Tyler Eaton, he has been slowly and lovingly litigating the project into existence, and the whole team is now gearing up for an early November production start date with a stacked cast of rising comedy greats (more on these in the team section).

Behind the scenes of previous short film collaborations: "Shitty Strawberries", "Magic Town", and "Chemo Brain"

This project is truly a labor of love for everyone involved, and we all passionately believe that- aside from being hilarious- this film is going to be a important exploration of the timely themes of compassion, authenticity, and the sublime absurdity of what it means to pursue a better world when the world you live in seems to be imploding. It is a film that takes on and skewers the fuzzy line between good intentions, self righteousness, and plain old fashion hysteria in today’s political-cultural climate, and- more importantly- does so in a way that only cinema can.

It is also a film we are proud to say will truly embrace alternative and grassroots modes of film production and community. This is something that is sorely lacking at large right now, in a time when “independent” films are actually budgeted in the tens of millions of dollars and often act as little more than calling cards for their creators to get drafted onto corporate franchise movie projects, but something we can counteract by fostering communities around smaller budgeted pictures and embracing the independent spirit of the films that inspired this project.

We here at Judge Mint’s Follies believe that art that is allowed to freely explore and interrogate its culture and time is always worth fighting for, and if you agree we hope you’ll consider hitting the donate button and helping out in whatever amount you are able to!

^^^Pretend this is a donate button being hit.

Closing Arguments:

Look, we know things are tough out there right now, and that there are millions of worthy causes and campaigns to donate your time and money to. The thing I most want to highlight about this campaign though is that as we move from our pre-production period to post, and a planned 2022 festival run, everything we do is made possible by the graciousness and generosity of the myriad collaborators each step of the way.

As anyone who’s ever been involved in filmmaking knows, working on a DIY indie movie means hustling and being constantly pressed for time and resources. This grind gets transferred down on the cast and crew, which is why we want to make sure they’re all getting as much as we can get them for all their hard work and sacrifices.

Speaking of which, obviously we're far from done with COVID-19 precautions being necessary on film sets and we fully plan to utilize the safety skills our crew members have learned and utilized on various TV shows they've worked on throughout the pandemic. While our cast members will have to be maskless for various scenes, our (vaccinated) crew will be distancing and masked up as much as possible. Your contributions will also go to making sure our sets can stay clean and sanitized throughout production.

Thanks for asking, Chad's character from Shitty Strawberries! We're shooting the whole movie in November, 2021, so not too far away. Then after that it's right on to post production and the festival circuit in 2022!

I promise you that every dollar we raise goes to something (check out our wishlist in a minute) that will in someway make life easier for everyone working tirelessly to bring this movie into existence. Whether that’s additional time at one of our soundstage sets, higher hourly rates, or just extra money to cover additional festival submission costs so our team (and everyone else!) gets to enjoy seeing their hard work translate to cinema on the big screen!

We hope you’ll consider contributing to our campaign, and please know that whether it’s a small claims or supreme court-sized contribution, you forever have our hearts and the hearts of anyone hoping to someday pursue their art independently!
