Mission Statement

As we grow older, we might find that aspects of our old lives no longer suit us, and become actively detrimental to our health. Still, be it out of inertia or fear, we hold on to what was once warm. This film calls to make the jump into an unknown, but healthier future.

The Story

"KILL YOUR PAST" follows Jasper McCain, the leader of an infamous hacker group. By his sides are Lorene Huffman and Rinkhal. Lorene is their gadget maker. High tech lockpicks, bombs, anything that's needed to get a job done. Rinkhal is their masked brute. Neither Lorene nor Jasper know much about him, but they do know he sure is... motivated. During KILL YOUR PAST, they discover a fatal flaw in the city's infrastructure. With just one encryption key, they could access all technology in the city remotely. Sure, in the wrong hands this power could be abused. But they'll be different... right?

Why this movie?

Many people fear change in their life, and understandably so. The world, now more than ever is already incredibly unpredictable. Why bring even more chaos through change? The comfort of an underwhelming or toxic, but known present is so much easier to deal with mentally than a future that is unclear. However, many people allow themselves to be bullied and abused in these circumstances, too afraid to change. This film rallies against that idea, and calls the audience to make necessary changes that will lead them to a happier and healthier life. Even if that means staring into the unknown.

What has already been completed?

The script is nearing a final draft, with only small details needing to be fleshed out to give the film its final polish! Every major moment, all the character arcs, and all the details needed for pre-production have already been locked in!

We have several actors already scheduled for auditions, and they will be secured soon after the fundraiser! Additionally, reference footage for the fight scenes are 95% completed, with only small scuffles left to choreograph.

We have concept art for our costume department completed (which you can see later in this section!). We also have all but one location secured for the movie, meaning our production design team has the foundation to begin their work!

And finally, we only have a few smaller roles on the crew to secure. All our department heads and their assistants have all been selected!

Financial Breakdown

At minimum, we would need 1,200 dollars to produce this movie. This will not cover all the costs, but will support us enough to make the personal costs a little less strenuous. This money will go towards location rental, equipment rental and prop creation.

Stretch Goals

We also have stretch goals for this project! For every movie Lance directs, a behind the scenes video is also produced. By reaching these goals, the video will have Lance and the crew go through fun challenges.

$1,800 -

This money will be allocated to food for the crew. The crew will obviously be feed regardless of whether or not this tier is reached; but raising this amount will cover a majority of the food cost.

If this tier is reached, Lance will be zip tied for at least an hour on set! Surely no one named Kaley Ross will steal anything from him on set!

$2,100 -

This money will go towards transportation costs for the cast and crew. Many people on this set are willing to personally cover the cost of transportation, but it would be great if they did not have to. Reaching this tier makes it easier to get everyone to and from set!

If this tier is reached, the entire crew will be doing a hot sauce shot to say thank you! (they are thankful, even if they don't say it right after the shot)

$2,500+ -

This, and any extra money will go towards film festival submissions. This will help the film gain even more traction leading up to its worldwide release!

If this tier is reached, the entire cast and crew will be given water balloons filled with paint to throw at Lance, in order to get their built up rage out on the final day.

Inspirations

I've always admired the art style of the Watch Dogs series, especially Watch Dogs 2 and Watch Dogs Legion.

The games' ability to balance both a carefree, silly aesthetic while also being serious enough to have genuine story moments is something I've always found so intriguing. I hope that Kill your Past is also able to have the perfect balance of style and seriousness.

Concept Art

We already have some concept art completed for our characters!

About This Team

Director - That's me!

I'm Lance Fule, I've worked on several of my own short films in the past and I have worked several different positions on countless films. This is my last film with Montclair State University, and I'm working to make sure it's the best it can be!

Assistant Director - Adam Brzozowski

Adam and I have worked together for the past three years as an Director/AD duo. We understand each others' directing styles and he knows how to schedule a set, and how to keep everyone moving. Without him, my sets would be much less organized.

Director of Photography - Nathaniel Fischer

Nate has been a great friend of mine for a long time, and I've seen his past work; it's incredible. I'm so excited to have him join the team!

Gaffer - John Galascio

John has been with me since my very first serious short film, and I'm so happy he's still working with me now. He's endlessly talented and an incredible person. If you love the lighting in this movie, be sure to credit him!
