The Story

The Story
Jack is at his lowest, feeling he has lost everything. Much to his surprise, he makes a new friend; his younger self. The two of them go on a journey of self-discovery through their memories to put themselves back together.
Why This Story
Everyone is always saying to forget about the past and move on. I only believe the second part to be true. The past is integral to who we are and how we develop, and ignoring that is a disservice to ourselves. Kintsugi explores how the past shapes us, and embracing it is the true way to embrace yourself.
A Live-Action/Animated Adventure
Jack journies his memories with Young Jack, who is personified as a crudely animated child that ages as he travels with Jack. This film will take risks with its incorporation of animation, creating exciting and comical visuals.
An Introduction
Hey everyone, my name is Asher Freidberg and I am the writer, director and a producer on Kintsugi. Kintsugi has been a longtime passion project of mine that is finally coming to life through my SCAD Senior Capstone project.
What Is Kintsugi?

Some of you might be asking, "what is Kintsugi?"
Kintsugi is a Japanese art form where broken pottery is made more beautiful by the damage. This is achieved by mending the cracks with gold; making the damage part of the beauty.
In our film, the protagonist will be depicted as cracked, with the use of makeup, and will fill in with gold as he heals.
This metaphor has always stayed with me, as it represents the fact that everything we have experienced makes up who we are, and in many ways adds to the beauty of life.
An Ambitous Project
Kintsugi is a very ambitious project, combining live-action and animation. The story follows Jack, a down on his luck guy who is thrust into his memories, accompanied by his younger self, depicted as a crudely drawn animated character. The two of them journey through his past to find what broke him, and as they travel, they learn more about each other, both gaining a new perspective on the other.
