Mission Statement
Kith & Kin was created by a wife duo. Our production company goal has always been to empower young women to become front-runners in the entertainment industry. We strive to bring interesting, honest female characters to life in lead roles. Our team also proudly consists of female & LGBTQ+ majority.About The Project
It's undeniable. There's something about the 'smoke' billowing from the mountains of North Carolina that draws you in. It has a way of being both beautifully comforting and eerily unnerving, all at the same time- making it the perfect backdrop to our story about family and the love and darkness that comes with them.
As a child, The Great Smoky Mountains meant 'family', to me. It was an escape from the heat of Central Florida into the arms of my grandparents, aunts, uncles and family friends. It was the place where my parents were raised and the place where this Florida girl built her first (very small but very exciting) snowman. There was something magical about the mountains; the way they called to me, the way they sang at sunrise and sunset with the unfamiliar sounds held within.
When the idea of Kith & Kin arose, it was from the smoke of those very mountains- from the pickup rides along dirt roads and the rafting adventures on the Nantahala, all the way down to the roadside vegetable stands and quiet creeks. The landscape tells a story if you'll listen to it; each mountain home brimming with secrets, waiting to unfold.
The Dumont family, at the center of our story, is no different and I cannot wait for the world to meet them.
When the Dumont sisters receive the phone call from their mother, telling them to come home, they can never imagine the darkness that awaits. Upon return, the seemingly innocent family reunion takes a sudden, dark turn as their loyalty and love for one another is put to the ultimate test. Each dealing in their own way, they must inevitably decide what they are willing to sacrifice for kin.
The series has already been greenlit for the 2021 season via SeekaTV.
Outtake Productions has years of experience making magic when it comes to working on a successful series within a small budget. The first few seasons of Or So the Story Goes were produced with a limited amount of equipment and self-taught skills. What we created goes far beyond those limitations. For our most recent seasons, Golden Rule & Knock Knock, we were able to increase the budget and bring a professional crew on board. With our combined skills, those seasons became our most successful seasons to date, with numerous awards and international coverage. They are continuing to do well on the festival circuit, as well as airing on Apple TV & Roku via the streaming platform SeekaTV.
JoeBert Entertainment is also no stranger to creating phenomenal work within a small budget and have brought to life amazing, award winning short and feature films with owned equipment and skills- at one point creating an entire dolly system from self built tracks and a wheelchair.
Kith & Kin will utilize the skills of both production companies. By combining our efforts and gear and shooting on location in North Carolina, we will be able to shave off a great amount of the usual needed production budget.
The money raised will go to fund the crew, cast, extra needed equipment, props, wardrobe, travel expenses to get the cast & crew to our filming locations and much more.
As you can imagine, the COVID19 pandemic has forced us to make some obvious changes. We shifted to the virtual world for pre-production needs like our table read, local casting and rehearsals.
In the wake of all of this, we are moving forward to make it happen while also keeping our cast & crew safe. In the event we are unable to film safely, as planned, in August, the production will still go on. Production will simply be pushed to a later time, when things are clear.
This pandemic had obvious effects on our fundraising efforts, as well. We are incredibly lucky to have already had fantastic sponsors on board for Kith & Kin but we are now looking to you to help us raise the rest of the funds needed.
Our hope is that when you watch Kith & Kin, you’ll fall in love with these amazing characters, be awed by the scenery, and feel at home; even in the darkest moments of the Dumont family. But more than anything we can’t wait to see who you root for.
