The Story
What's the story?
The movie, Know, explores sexuality and acceptance, specifically, how different generations understand fluidity, both within a single family and society at large.
Andy, who has avoided her family for nearly twenty years, returns home for a brief visit with her mother and sister. And she is confronted by painful history in a very unexpected way when she learns her nephew had come out more than a year earlier.
So Andy must suppress her true feelings to survive family dinner with her nephew’s boyfriend.
Know considers how present moments can unearth and reshape past experiences, and how that impacts current relationships.
Know is a thoughtful female-driven look at the representation of oneself in both family and society at large. We are driven by the knowledge that so many of our LGBT+, people of color, and otherwise non-majority friends and family members don’t always feel welcome to share who they really are. Know explores how hiding your truth can weigh heavily on you and occupy your mind in a way not easily understood in the moment.
Why Now?
We are at a pivotal moment in history, when we’re beginning to prove the audiences not only exist but are hungry for representation, but we cannot be complacent. We have to keep pushing. Through funding projects like these, we get to bring life to the stories that Hollywood refuses to tell.
How This Came to Be
Traffic in LA can be a bear, but it can also lead to scripts like this! While driving home from class one afternoon, Alex (director and co-writer) and Laura (producer and co-writer) started to daydream about what a short film focused on current events would look like. 2 hours later when they finally pulled off the I-10, the Know movie was born.
Thank you!
Your contributions will go directly toward funding this film. We will pay our cast and crew; we will rent the best equipment and find the best locations.
