Mission Statement
The Story
oncept Art of Main Characters)
Siobhan, a young woman overcoming the trauma of her final girl origin story, enters a special university. There is a division of this school dedicated specifically to 'Last Girls' who have survived supernatural phenomena. The goal? Prepare them for the many more that will follow. Siobhan meets a group of young women, each with their own origin story and the scars that go with it, and together they grow and overcome the first 'monster' they've seen since their final girl awakenings. But if there's one thing fighting monsters will teach you, it's that not everything is always as it appears. Trust is hard to come by, even among 'friends'.

Last Girl Society covers many themes, but we will stick to the ones the pilot will showcase the most: young adulthood, identity, and trust.
Young Adulthood
Entering college is a prominent widening of horizons. It is a time when many people explore who and what they are and that is no different for the characters of Last Girl Society. Some of the characters are experiencing this new and daunting freedom of self-discovery and are embracing it while others are pushing it away and hiding. Some of the characters are a bit older and on the precipice of true adulthood, struggling with the foreboding responsibilities that await outside the school walls. We want to showcase all of the different and turbulent feelings of what it means to come of age.
Identity
The biggest theme our first protagonist, Siobhan, struggles with. This pilot centers around her and her inability to be true to herself in all aspects of her identity- her sexuality, her self-esteem, her style and even her humanity. Siobhan hides who she is after her 'origin story', unsure of how the outside world would view her if her true self was known. Still, despite all the pretending she does, she yearns and strives for true friendships and connections despite the looming anxiety that someone will find out her secrets.
Trust
To be blunt, it's hard for anyone to trust after being attacked by a monster right? But not all monsters are created equal and some of the girls struggle a lot more than others to form bonds after their origins. Some distrust other people, some technology, and some don't even trust themselves. Meanwhile some girls were left so empty after their attacks they're willing to trust anyone as long as it means they won't be alone. Giving and breaking of trust is a very prominent theme not just in this pilot episode but ideally will continue on to be a main and lasting theme through the entire series.

The dialogue, content, and imagery should evoke well-known shows like...

We all have a strong sense of nostalgia for the shows in this genre, as I'm sure you can tell. They were extremely influential on who we are and how we formed our respective characters and senses of self, as we are sure is the case for a lot of people seeking to support projects like this one. One thing a lot of these shows didn't have was representation. Representation of minorities, of varying sexualities, and of the broad spectrum of personal boundaries that are displayed in everyday life. Where they did have representation, it was usually narrowed down to a trope or stereotype- something easy to consume and recognize but that did nothing to show the beautiful variety of humanity.
We aim to create a show that provides those comfortable, nostalgic feelings and foster that cult-like adoration that shows of this type have created in the past, while showcasing that wonderful variety and depth of character. Being introverted does not have to mean being quiet all the time. Black women are allowed to be angry like everyone else; it doesn't make them mean or aggressive. Being girly and bubbly doesn't mean you have to like everyone, and it isn't weird or quirky if you have interests outside clothes and shoes. Sexuality is a spectrum and changes all the time- some people go back and forth, and some people just know- neither is bad.
None of this should be groundbreaking. None of this needs to be stated in your face. We want to create something that helps to normalize these things to an audience still in their formative years, when media has a tremendous impact on their perceptions of themselves and others.

We've created a diagram showing the general distribution of how we will use the funds. We want to pay our actors and crew as much as possible, so any funds raised over our goal will be distributed to make sure the cast and crew are paid as well as possible and that they are taken care of well on set.
Our main focuses are:
- Fair pay for cast and crew
- Rentals and insurance for locations
- Rentals for equipment, including wires for floating effects
- Post Production expenses (you need good effects to sell these types of shows!)
- Food- the key to a happy and healthy set!

Cast Pay
Costs $1,400
While most small productions aren't able to pay the cast- with your support we'd love to be one of the ones that can!
Camera Department
Costs $1,000
We are paying the crew out of pocket but this helps cover equiptment!
Production Design
Costs $1,400
It takes a lot to make a set- and we need several and to pay the production designer. This is for props, costumes and makeup as well.
Locations
Costs $2,000
You can't make a film with nowhere to film- and you can't make a good film without accurate locations. We need some pretty nice school sets.
Food and Insurance
Costs $1,200
You gotta feed the actors and this will be a several-day shoot. And insurance is a no-brainer.
Post Production
Costs $2,500
This is to make our final product, and get it seen by as many people as possible. Editing, color, sound, festival submissions, etc.
Other Crew
Costs $500
We would like to pay a script superviser and sound mixer on set

About This Team
HAYDEN PARSLEY
The main writer and creative force behind Last Girl Society. Hayden has been working on this script since 2023, when he first started work on it for a writing workshop. Hayden is passionate about the sci-fi and fantasy genres and has been writing in them since he was 13 years old. He is a perfectionist at heart, committed to a vision he is always tinkering with, building the world and characters deep below the tip of the iceberg where no audience will ever see. But he is also a strong leader who has managed clubs, directed films and game design projects, and currently teaches a class of (very energetic) tenth graders every day. Hayden also has experience as a fight choreographer, running the gamut from lightsaber fights, to slasher films, to gritty martial arts action, he is passionate about creating the perfect action to fit the genre and make the audience go "ooo," and even, "aah."
He has a deep understanding of the characters and story and will be the best on-set resource for the actors and crew when bringing the vision to life.
EMALINE JOHNSON
Co-writer and Director of Last Girl Society. Emaline's main film experience thus far has been as an assistant director, so she knows how to run a tight ship on set and will be working with the crew to ensure a smooth and safe filming experience. She has a keen eye and ability to think quickly under pressure. A natural problem solver, she has a wealth of experience from directing live theater on and off for 10+ years and can provide solutions immediately to keep things on track as well as amazingly true to script.
She is a rock on set and is a major driving force behind bringing the script as far as it has come, and she will continue to help it propel forward.
