The Story
What would you do if you thought you were dreaming? If you found yourself alone in a strange place and couldn't leave? How would you react to being told that your life had changed forever, and you could never return to the past you left behind? Now...how would you react when you found out it was all your fault? These are the questions the protagonist of Lavender and Thyme must face. These are questions we want to ask our audience.
Lavender and Thyme is at its core a story about self-forgiveness. We can all relate to Eli and his struggle with grief and guilt, even though the specifics of our experiences may differ from his, because to live is to be confronted by suffering. We cannot live without feeling loss. That's why we root for Eli. He is troubled, confused, and as flawed as any of us, so if he can overcome his trauma and escape the world he's trapped in, we can too.
By far the best thing about film school is the community of students and faculty who are likeminded artists, pursuing the same crazy dream. We, a few members of that community, are grateful for the time and support you give us. We hope to return the favor by inspiring audiences with the story of Lavender and Thyme.
Stories come to life when they're told through film, and that life hopefully inspires change in the lives of its viewers. As film students and filmmakers, we have to ask ourselves what kind of stories we want to tell and what changes we want to see in the world. We're committed to making the best film we can. Your support is such a vital part of that process. We're currently only weeks away from principal photography. We've finished casting, and the crew couldn't be more excited to welcome the talented actors playing Eli, The Clerk, and The Girl. We're also excited and grateful to be partnering with Inspire Farms in Mesa, Arizona. Inspire Farms is a locally owned and operated farm goods and grocery store, boasting some of the finest homemade goods from Arizona vendors. It's the perfect location to film Lavender and Thyme, and we're so happy to have the opportunity not just to bring our film to life there, but to raise awareness and support for local businesses.
This film represents the senior thesis for the major crew. It is the culmination of not just our years of learning at ASU, but the development we've made as filmmakers and artists in the Phoenix community. Following production, Lavender and Thyme will go into postproduction in January. It will be showcased in May at the SPNAFS at ASU in Mesa, which is also when upper tier donors will receive a digital copy. From there, it will be submitted to various festivals. Once the festival circuit is completed, L & T will be available on YouTube, sometime in 2025.
