Lights, Camera, Hijinks is a movie musical about a performing arts school prepping for a talent show with a cash prize of $10,000. The competition gets heated and the singers, dancers and tech students turn against each other, they will do ANYTHING to secure the cash. But is there a deeper reason they are so vehement in getting the prize money? Which will win, morals or pride?

This story was created by the Atlanta Workshop Players (AWP) students, a collection of kids, teens and adults with a voice, a point of view, that should be seen by many! Kindness and unwavering support are so needed in our society right now. Stories such as Lights, Camera, Hijinks, that are told in a joyful, silly and playful way are an easy way to start discussions among viewers around some of the more difficult topics in life.

*Behind the Scenes from MMC & AWP's last movie musical, In-Between
As an acting studio, the Atlanta Workshop Players believe that technical skills are important but even more so is how we navigate the world, we encourage empathy, compassion, dedication and unwavering support between students. That is a strong through-line of Lights, Camera, Hijinks!

Abbott Elementary meets High School Musical the Musical the Series

The Movie Musical Company is a training program at The Atlanta Workshop Players, a nonprofit performing arts organization dedicated to changing the world one audience at a time. The original concept for Lights, Camera, Hijinks was created by students Julia Collazo and Willa Cusky with elements from Emma Powell and Reyn Graves. Once the concept was finalized, the rest of the cast brainstormed to figure out the pranks to be used throughout the film. THEN all of this information was made into a story outline by Ashlyn Stallings and sent to Composer and Lyricist Jacob Ryan Smith. This is truly a collaborative piece thanks to the kids, teens and adults in the Movie Musical Company and the production team!
The Lights, Camera, Hijinks team is currently in pre-production. Music and Lyrics are being written by the composer, locations are being secured, wardrobe is being pulled, script is being finalized and every bit of support helps during this time! There will be a red carpet premiere for Lights, Camera, Action within one year of wrapping production, it will be sent to festivals worldwide and post festival run will be released publicly.
Stretch goals: Lights, Camera, Hijinks is asking for $5,000, our shoestring budget is actually $10,000 so ANY bit over $5,000 is more beneficial than we can even express! It makes it possible for Lights, Camera, Hijinks to have a larger crew, be able to attend festivals and have promotional materials made! And if there is even MORE than this film needs for its forward trajectory, it will be added to the mix for our next short film!

From Julia, Willa, Emma and Reyn, who worked on the original concept:
REYN - "I think the most human experience is our search for connection, and I want to tell stories that explore that. Despite how easy it is to talk to just about anyone now, it often feels like we’re more disconnected than ever. There’s a lot of fear and hate in the world. Stories about people coming together in kindness feel necessary right now. I really love Julia and Willa’s idea, and I’m glad some of the concepts Emma and I came up with will work in that story!"
