The Story
Like Me, Like Everyone is a simple story about a girl who is forced to humanize her parents after discovering her mother has made peace with her father’s affair. Camille, 21, learns that she cannot let her happiness or actions be dependent on the people around her, even if they are those that she loves the most.

Like Me, Like Everyone follows Camille Schaffer, who is taken out on her birthday to her favorite restaurant by her boyfriend, Sam, for dinner. At the restaurant, Camille spots her father, Hugh, with another woman.
The following day, Camille attempts to confront her mother with the news, and instead of the reaction she was expecting, her mother tells her to keep quiet to maintain peace in the family. Camille proceeds to spiral, recognizing the same patterns in her relationship with Sam, and attempts to break the cycle by going against her mother’s wishes and exposing her father.

As a writer and filmmaker, I’ve always been drawn to stories that were stripped down and filled with raw, authentic dialogue and emotion because those are the stories that I feel have shaped me. These were the stories that provided me with a place of comfort and understanding, even when I didn’t find that in the reality of my situation. Stories of family conflict, heartbreak, love, and self-discovery.
We all know that relationships are complex, especially those with the people that raised us. We set them to a higher standard than the rest of the people in our lives, almost stripping them of their humanity; we allow very little room for their mistakes and the establishment or creation of a mutual understanding.
The most difficult part of any parent/child dynamic is stepping outside of one’s perceived understanding of each other and recognizing that, on both ends, we are real people with desires, traumas, interests, and fears. That we are not just someone’s mother or someone’s daughter.

Being a black, female, queer writer and director will be a difficult path; however, being granted the opportunity to work alongside such a talented cast and crew is driving me to make this project the very best that it can be, with your help!
The funding for this project will go to everything from
- purchasing and altering costumes
- hair and makeup
- covering location rentals
- production design/set dressing
- covering equipment rental
- providing craft services to feed our hard-working team
- post production coloring software
- covering festival submission fees
We’re extending our hand to widen this film’s community through monetary aid. The film community thrives on giving back. We ask for your help right now to make movies so, in the future, we can help the next group of budding filmmakers.

We've all done a lot of growing over the past year. We watched necessities, politics, art, and human connection develop and change in the face of national hardship. As we cautiously re-enter the normalities of everyday life, we are coming at it with new eyes and a fresh perspective. The Like Me, Like Everyone cast and crew are preparing to enter a changing film and performance industry to ensure that the hard work, dedication, change, and love spread over the past year not only stay in the industry but become the industry.
Change starts from the ground up and we're standing with both feet on the ground. Like Me, Like Everyone has filming dates set for early June, and after we're looking forward to submitting to film festivals everywhere from The Chicago Feminist Film Festival and the Los Angeles International Student Film Festival to The Artemis Women In Action Film Festival and the Black Women Film Network (Short Film Competition).
If we surpass our goal, the remaining funds will be used to compensate our cast and crew for all of the time and effort put into the production of our film.
