The Story
The story of "Lily 'N' Rose" was inspired by a painfully true, adolescent event. I was in 7th grade and had a best friend whom I'd eaten lunch with everyday since fourth grade.
One day, I decided not to eat lunch with her. A clique of girls had seated themselves at a nearby table. These girls were already wearing makeup, talking about bands and boys. They were of a world that I was curious about. I got up from our table, walked over to them, and asked if I could join.
I didn't ask if my friend could. I didn't even look at her across the courtyard, sitting quietly alone. I knew I had done something terribly wrong, but I was also ready to spread my wings in a way that my best friend wasn't.
Sometimes in life, we have to leave something behind in order to grow. Losing your first childhood friendship is our first taste of heartbreak. We will go through this at different times as we grow older. Hopefully, we learn to handle this more gracefully each time.
I recently reached out to my old friend for the first time since we were teens.
I wondered if she would even want to hear from me.
I took a deep breath and sent a brief message.
To my surprise, she wrote back immediately, asking:
"Is this THE Sheryl Glubok - my dearest childhood friend?"
Join us on this journey as we take our broken hearts and make art.
PRODUCTION MISSION STATEMENT
The statistics regarding gender equality and the female pay gap is well documented. As filmmakers, we have known this for a long time. However, when having a conversation with our lovely young stars, they were shocked to learn of this. For our film - which focuses on sororal friendship - it made sense to fill the key positions with females. We are doing this for aesthetic and storytelling reasons, but we are also doing this for our young stars and other future filmmakers. May they grow up in a more inclusive environment than we we have.

STRETCH GOALS
The budget we have set is the minimum needed to make the film at the professional level. We have all been asked to work for credit, or in unsafe conditions, or to chip in for the meal. We are ending that culture. We'll have a safe production full of well-fed, compensated people.
Beyond that:
If we raise $20, 250 - we'll be able to have fireflies in the final scene (yes, you read that right)!
If we raise $22, 000 - we'll be able to upgrade our camera package (even better quality images)!
If we raise $23, 500 - we'll be able to bring on a few more hands (safer, more relaxed set)!
If we raise $24, 000 - we'll be able to license a choice 80's song (which one? you'll see...)!
If we raise $28, 100 - we'll have completely covered our Post-Production cost (righteous)!
If we raise $29, 500 - we'll have covered festivals and distribution costs (we come to you)!
Collaborative Projects for Collective Presentation
We want to tell diverse stories, and we want to do that as a group. We are all about bringing in a collection of talented creatives and letting them shine. With the completed projects, we'd like to return the viewing experience to theatrical settings. The experience of joining a community of viewers in a collective moment is what made us first fall in love with Cinema. OUR DISTRIBUTION STRATEGY is to submit to the wonderful world of film festivals before sharing it with the world online.
