Mission Statement

Line Cooks follows Callie, a sheltered student who takes a job as a line cook for a recommendation letter. The film is catharsis for food service workers, who deserve a golden moment in the spotlight. We want to satirize, celebrate, and vent about everything they have to deal with, and then some.

The Story

Hoping to get a recommendation for future internships, sheltered Callie joins a crew of ex-cons as a Line Cook for the summer.

WELCOME TO KIMCHI-RITO, ROOKIE!!!

LINE COOKS is a coming of age mockumentary following Callie, a straight-A and sheltered college student who takes a job as line cook at a hole in the wall restaurant to secure a letter of recommendation… only to find out this Korean-taco joint is run by ex-cons and cartel members. Callie is spirited into the world of backroom restaurant cooks, startled by cigarette smoke and health hazards aplenty. Working alongside a take-no-shit mom-of-three manager, a trio of rebellious fifteen year olds, an ex-cartel vet, and a dumpster rat named Carl, it’ll take all of Callie’s willpower to make it through her first shift, let alone an entire summer. Full of wit, fun, and OSHA violations, LINE COOKS follows an unlikely team of customer service heroes leading up to the dreaded health inspector’s visit at the end of the summer.

A PG-13 Film.

We are excited to be shooting LINE COOKS in the Chicagoland area and are committed to brining the voices of diverse creatives and artists in the Midwest and across the country together. This film is a partnership of Who's To Say Productions, Scofflaw Productions, and Journeywork Entertainment and is a proud advocate for independent cinema and creative storytelling. After post production, the film is planned to be on online streaming platforms and submitted to film festivals in the near future.

This story is a labor of love, inspired by my own experience in customer service and the horror stories I’ve heard from past co-workers. There is something so incredible about bringing this film to life knowing that it’s grounded in such a universal experience: working long, late hours for not enough pay. I wanted to pay homage to the incredible alliances forged in these physical, draining jobs. So often, our abilities and status in life is limited to what we do for work. I wanted this film to challenge those conceptions, to poke fun at horrible customers and management, and also show the everyday battles happening in fast food kitchens around the world. With visuals and tone drawn from the groundbreaking Anthony Bourdain No Reservations series, the nostalgia and excitement of John Hughes, and mockumentary comedies like The Office and Parks and Recreation, LINE COOKS is a summer coming of age story for comedy fans of all ages.
