From a young age, Mara was trained to become an assassin like her father.
Entering adulthood, she begins to follow her own path, pursuing music and independence.

She arrives at her favorite music venue, set to perform in its final show before closing down. Just as the night begins, her father calls, demanding she complete a last-minute assignment.
Reluctantly, Mara agrees.
What was meant to be a simple job quickly goes wrong, causing Mara to run out of time.
She's relentless and emotionally guarded, raised to meet her father’s expectations but rarely acknowledged beyond them. Music is the one place where she feels a sense of ownership, allowing her to yearn and express what she keeps buried.
This role will be led by award-winning actress, Ashley Fletcher.

I’ve spent a lot of my life feeling caught between what I want to do and what I feel responsible to do, especially as an artist chasing something uncertain. Even with support from my family now, there was a time when choosing my own path felt like stepping away from the expectations I was raised with.
Balancing ambition and obligation is something I continue to navigate, and it became the core element for this story. Being caught between the two without fully committing to either takes an emotional toll, which is why I used action and violence as a metaphor for that struggle, turning Linger into a coming-of-age action film.
From the Lead Actress, Ashley Fletcher
Growing up, I loved watching action movies with my dad, but whenever someone who looked like me appeared on screen, their character was often reduced to a stereotype. Black women don’t get enough diverse, complex storylines, and that’s something Ryan and I want to change.
This film isn’t just about “an angry Black woman beats people up.” Mara is more than a fighter, more than a warrior. She’s human. I’m excited to bring her to life and contribute to better representation of Black women in action films.
