Mission Statement

This film made by a team of those in the demographic aims to be a light in the dark for those struggling with young-adulthood. Whether you feel too old to return to high school, or too young to pay your taxes, Looking for Layla sees you, and wants to tell your story!

The Story

Gavin, a disgruntled young adult who dodges responsibility at every turn, plucks away his roommate Dani to search for Layla, a girl he fell in love with at a party the night before. Parading around a small midwest town with hand-drawn flyers, Gavin grows more and more frustrated at every turn. Eventually they discover Layla is at a diner, along with the fact that Dani and Gavin have both just gotten evicted. Conflicted and afraid, Gavin hopes to run away with Layla, who denies him. In shambles, Gavin has an epiphany, and tries to patch things up with Dani, who offers to work together to find somewhere new to live.

Looking for Layla is inspired by stories such as Frances Ha and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World!

As a crew of twenty somethings growing up in Northeast Ohio, we have all experienced the struggle of finding ourselves in the wild world of college.

After four years of film education and a long list of short films underneath our belts, we aim to make Looking for Layla a story that will blow you away! The story has been carefully written with a clear vision from our director, and the budget aims to bring this vision to fruition.

Looking for Layla is for those who see the line of childhood and adulthood, and for those who are looking back after crossing it. The concepts of freedom and choice vary from person to person, and sometimes these ideas can conflict. What happens when two close friends challenge each other on freedom? What happens when they don't agree? What does freedom even mean?

These are all questions Looking for Layla aims to answer.

Our budget aims to raise 750 dollars total. 500 of this will be used to feed our crew, pay for locations, and obtain costumes and props for the film. Alongside this, 250 dollars will be saved for our festival run, to pay for submissions and get Looking for Layla the accolades we know it will deserve!

If we meet our goal, we plan to extend our goal to gain more revenue for our production design and equipment rentals!
