Mission Statement

This projects highlights a 1st generation Filipino woman in the 1970's who has a love for Dancing, Funk and Soul Music. It explores cultural varieties of "The American Dream". It will also showcase how dancing and music transcends racial and cultural barriers by bringing up all together to BOOGIE!

The Story

It's 1978 in Los Angeles California and Loreen Bautista is in love with one thing, and one thing only: The Boogie! Ever since she was a young kid, Loreen has been mesmorized and captivated by soul and funk music. She spends all of her time, listening to new tunes, practicing steps with her best friend Loretta Gaines and watching her dance idols perform on Soul Train.

There's just one thing standing in the way of Loreen's Soul Train Dreams...

Loreen's parents are totally against her dreams of dancing on the big screen. They moved from the Phillipines to LA to give Loreen the life they never had. She is the first person in her family to attend college and they don't want her getting side tracked with pipe dreams of becoming a dancer.

Loreen loves her parents, but she doesn't fit in with their traditional cultural practices and she struggles with staying true to herself and finding her own identity.

After Loreen recieves the heartbreaking news that she has flunked out of school, her parents are fed up with her shenanigans and give her an ultimatum.  She and her best friend Loretta stumble upon the dance audition of a lifetime and set out to make their dreams come true!
