Mission Statement

To demonstrate that one artist can create and deliver a poignant, thoughtful, touching, funny, artful, authentic, analog-ish and sexy studio album to a large audience with the support of a community versus a major label.

The Story

WELCOME!! I'm Caitlin Cannon, and I spent the last three years making a kick-ass record! Please be a part of it, and help me give it the release it deserves!

Sometimes, I ask my incarcerated students to tell me what differentiates a song from a musical poem. My personal answer is that songs are conversations. And my songs are conversations I am having with you. This life can be so complicated. It comforts me to siphon out the irony, and package it into something palatable that you can also feel and understand. Songwriting is a language I’ve studied and developed, and studied and developed. It can take me years to finish writing a song, until it becomes potent enough to sustain this connection—so that when either of us feels alone, the song can remind us that we are not.

Now, I’m not going to just up and compare myself to Michelangelo here, but I do think I care as much about this record as he did the Sistine Chapel. And he couldn’t have done it without someone like the Pope to care about him caring about it!

This ASK is to fund the exact kind of marketing plan I’d be executing if I had label support (or the support of the Catholic Church, which I can assure you I do not). In other words, your support will qualify you as my record label, my executive producer, my pope! It has the power to make you all those things!!

This is different from my past crowdfunding campaigns, because THIS RECORD IS DONE, BABY!!! Think of your pledge as a pre-order, because if we're able to meet the goal, then I’m just going to give it to you! Six whole months before it’s available anywhere else. And when it comes out, you will know all the words already!

I’ve got an ALL STAR PROJECT-MANAGEMENT DREAM TEAM on board to take ‘er all the way! Trouble is, having put all of my own resources into making our product over the last few years, I need a little help signing the paychecks. This is why crowdfunding is SO essential for independent artists who invest all of their means into the art, release it sans capital or marketing strategy, and then struggle to gain traction and visibility in the over saturated consumer spaces. (Ok, maybe I am going to compare myself to Michelangelo now.)

“Cannonangelo”— The Backstory:

Between the summers of 2021 and 2022, I was touring all over the country with Side Pony (my Americana super-duo with Alice Wallace). Long drives between shows gave me time to write. When back in Nashville, I started recording with producer Misa Arriaga (best known for his work with Kacey Musgraves and Willie Nelson). I was surrounded by some very gifted musicians in a very inspiring environment. While they created soundscapes that made my words and melodies move, my dreams came true. We tracked everything live, letting guitars bleed into and keys, and drums, and so on. As time, funds, and generosity would allow, we added everything from banjo to cello, horns to Wurlitzer, harmonica to harmonies and thensome. Fourteen tracks and three years later, we really developed a feel, a vibe, a sound if you will! In spring of 2024, I put the first four songs we recorded out on a stand-alone EP called “Beggar”. None of those songs are on this record. They have their own story, and releasing them has primed the pipelines for “Love Addict” to follow!

Soon after “Amarillo and Little Rock” was named a finalist in the American Songwriter Song Competition, I went on to win the Songwriter's serenade in Texas and placed third at the Telluride Troubadour Contest. The next day, Saving Country Music posted these words:

“She’s not a songwriter for the winners; she's a songwriter for the broken, the downtrodden, the losers, the motherf—rs. She sings about real sh— that most other songwriters don't have the guts to broach. A crack pool player and a hilarious person on stage who could have a second career as a comedian, Caitlin Cannon is one of those country artists that slides so criminally under the radar; it angers the blood.”

This review turned out to have some rather prophetic qualities:

  1. My 2020 release, ‘The TrashCannon Album’ (which got a 9.5/10 rating from Saving Country Music and was named one of their “most essential albums” that year) gained affection for the opening track, “Going for the Bronze” which I did go for, and I got!
  2. After Jennifer Steele (30A Songwriters Festival producer and Cultural Arts Alliance director) heard “Waiting” (the biographical story of my older brother's Life Sentence) she invited me to collaborate on a Prison Outreach Songwriting Program. Since then, I have returned five times to teach my two-week curriculum to over sixty inmates and five other teacher-songwriters.
  3. I made my comedic/musical debut on Kill Tony! I performed one minute of stand-up, and that went pretty well! Then they made fun of my knees for ten minutes and I tried to roast them back! (That did not go as well.) Then Tony said, “We’ll do the roasting, and you do the singing.” So, I sang “Love Addict” (our title track) while I peed myself.

After the episode aired, many people came looking for the new music. I had nothing to give them! But with your partnership, that will change! I am very lucky to have such a qualified team ready to sign on for project management, PR, radio, distribution and advertising. Will you please be my record label, patrons and popes, so that I can pay the #dreamteam to do a good job for us?!

Having released a few records now, I know how essential it is to have the support of my community. If you made it this far, thank you for being here. Whether you pre-order, pledge, share this with 10 of your friends, or put a couple of my songs on repeat, I am grateful.

In closing, thank you so very much for your continued love and support.
