Mission Statement

We believe in comedy for comedy sake and if the budget is low, lean into it! Laughter is our love language. It unites cultures and generations - It cuts through the darkness. We need it now more than ever and that's why we take our dumb very seriously…

The Story

LOVE YOU TO DEATH is the movie we wish we could go see in theaters. We love GOING to the movies and experiencing that communal laughter.

It's a rom-com parody that devolves into a horror parody—it's our two favorite genres making a beautiful, comedy orgasm. Ever had one of those? Same, but not since college:/. This film is a heartfelt, gut-busting, trope-nailing, pie-to-the-face-knife-to-the-neck kind of ride leaving you wanting a cigarette.

This team has been making viral videos all year and we want to take things to the next level with this feature length, comedy-slash-romcom-slash-horror-rom-slash-comedy-slash-slasher.

Everyone who’s read the script has said three things:

  1. “I need to see this.”
  2. “Cut some poop jokes”
  3. “I miss movies like this.”

And that’s been our biggest push to make it.

So we cut one poop joke, almost got this thing funded (see timeline below) and decided to risk everything to get this thing made with YOUR HELP. If the movie doesn’t get made, it’s because we died. If it does get made? We die in the movie. We have been working on this thing for over a year and have recently partnered with a Minneapolis based production company Ramble Pictures so there's no stopping now!!

We need $250,000 to make this thing perfect, but hey, grandma always said "nobody's perfect, now get out of the front yard and put some clothes on".

So... when the budget is LOW we LEAN INTO IT! Makes for a better comedy imo.

Our goal of $50,000 will take us through production and we can make something incredible, and incredibly funny. If we go beyond that, we can do more:)

After a bad breakup, Sarah Sweetflower, returns home to her charming small town (Excelsior, MN) where she reconnects with her high school sweetheart, Jake Darlingwood. But just as sparks start flying'—people start dying'.

What begins as a joke packed, feel-good romcom spirals into a joke packed, feel-good, blood-soaked horror show. It's Airplane! meets Halloween meets When Harry Met Sally —but Sally's being stalked and people in town are totally getting killed...

Love You to Death is a genre-bending love letter to everything we adore (and fear) about falling in love, movies, and everything in between.

Why Rom-Com?

Well. Love. Love is everything. Love is agony. Love is the breath of life. Love is confusing. Love is terrifying. And there’s no better genre to reflect our hurting but hopeful society than in a romantic comedy that pokes fun at itself. Romcom is also ripe for jokes and is best setup for surprise murders.

Why Comedy?

Because we can't help it... It is what we were born and trained to do. We want a gripping five laughs a minute tale of love, resilience, and the enduring power of the human spirit. It reminds us all us that even in the darkest of times, boobs, I mean love, will always prevail. :)

Why Horror?

Because it’s so f**king fun. Let's scream in and out of the bedroom baby!

And of course... Why Us? Why Now?

Because we got a comedy itch we can't scratch! Modern studio can't seem to scratch either... Our inspirations include but are not limited to:

  • Mel Brooks
  • When Adam McKay and Will Ferrell collaborated.
  • Everything David Wain has touched
  • The Wayans Brothers, especially when they were those hot blonde girls.
  • Kristen Wiig always, Anna Faris FOREVER.
  • Every SNL sketch that became a movie, the good and the bad, not the ugly though.

So are you itching too? Let's scratch it together. Time to knock this thing out of the end zone and launch a new era of comedy that isn’t afraid to go big, be dumb, and still hit you in the ding-a-dang-dong-I-mean-heart. (haha we are cooking now, haha)

Our Team's Backstory (Read this to the tune of “Rock Me Amadeus” by Falco*)

  • In 2010: Jimmy Gildea invites Lars Midthun to be in his high school rap group, the PJ Boys, where they promoted pajama day for the spirit week. They made videos for years.
  • In 2016 Lars creates an award winning, feature-length documentary about his grandfather, The Way North, his film school.
  • From 2017-2019 Lars and his buddy Jack Kelly create a series of sketches/short films/web series that accumulate festival awards across the country and over HUNDREDS OF VIEWS ON YOUTUBE!
  • In 2019: Lars & Sutter Nolan both move from MN to LA—unknowingly on the same comedy mission. They meet at the Groundlings.
  • In 2020: COVID hits. Both Lars and Sutter are back in Minnesota. They make a video that goes viral.
  • In 2023: The pair launch Smart Blonde Films and shoot a rom-com parody short, Lemonade of Love.
  • In 2024: That short wins a dozen film festivals and racks up millions of views online.
  • They pitch Love You to Death around town—a studio bites and wants to move forward with the script.
  • That studio goes under (classic).
  • In 2025: Ramble Pictures joins as producing partner with Smart Blonde Films and the team decides to fund the movie themselves to bring you....

How We’re Spending Your Bloody Beautiful Money

This money is for PRODUCTION. if we exceed our goal we can allocate it to post production! We’re making a comedy romcom and a horror film—so we need the budget to cover dreamy soft lighting for makeout scenes and realistic blood FX for when things get crazyyyy.

Every dollar you contribute goes directly on screen to make this the funniest, scariest, most stylish indie film we can create. Here’s how we’ll use it:

  • $35,000: Cast Crew, and Equipment – We’re hiring professionals: Actors, DP, a killer makeup, maybe a fluffer (jk), stunts, and crew who can light a romantic dinner bloodbath.
  • $5,000: Locations & Permits – Though we will be leaning on friends for this one, we need real places that ooze Midwestern charm and murder. And an airport set, obviously.
  • $2,000 Props and Production Design – Bloody bedsheets? Yes. Cool knives? Duh. A woodchipper? Absolutely necessary. This covers: costumes, props, set dressing, fake blood, etc.
  • $3,000 Sound – If no one hears her scream "I love you", or him whisper “help,” we failed. Audio is everything and we don't want to ADR the entire film.
  • $3,000 Food and Lodging Though all of our actors are used to surviving off bananas and living out of their cars, we can do better. Pasta and clean sheets please!
  • $2,000 Insurance and Legal - Even though us artists don't have heath insurance, the film and equipment must have it. Messed up!

We’ve already proven what we can do with zero budget with our award-winning proof of concept, Lemonade of Love. Now we’re ready to take it up ten notches—and with your help, we’ll make this twisted little love story a reality.

About This Team

Meet the Team Behind Love You to Death

After collaborating on the award-winning short Lemonade of Love—a proof of concept that racked up over a dozen festival wins—this team (Smart Blondes) knew they had something special. Now they’re expanding their twisted sense of humor, heart, and horror into a full-blown feature. Here’s the crew bringing the blood-soaked romcom to life:

Lars Midthun – Director, Writer, Actor

Lars is an award-winning filmmaker, comedian, and actor whose work blends emotional depth with razor-sharp comedy. His debut documentary The Way North screened in LA, Helsinki, and Oslo, earning honors for editing and first-time direction. With years of experience performing at UCB, a background in sketch and improv, and national tours in the hit parody show The fABBA Show, Lars knows how to craft comedy that plays on both stage and screen. His vision, tone control, and deep understanding of genre parody make him the ideal director to steer a slasher-romcom hybrid with style and bite.

Sutter Nolan – Actor, Producer

Sutter Nolan is a true scream queen with romcom chops and horror cred. She starred in the cult-favorite horror comedy Slotherhouse (now streaming on Amazon Prime), where she brought equal parts charm and chaos to the screen. She helped produce Lemonade of Love and is returning as a producer on Love You to Death, ensuring the same smart, stylish execution. With training from Second City and The Groundlings, and a flourishing commercial career with brands like Best Buy and Dr. Squatch, Sutter brings the looks, the laughs, and the lethal instincts to lead this film.

Jimmy Gildea – Director of Photography, Producer

Jimmy is the founder of Ramble Pictures and a powerhouse multi-hyphenate—DP, editor, writer, and producer—whose work spans documentary, narrative, and branded content. An international filmmaker who has shot on four continents, his credits include Women’s MarchChaos on the Green Line, and acclaimed indie films like Boxer 22 and Metempsychosis, along with collaborations with filmmakers like Gia Coppola and Chris Messina. His holistic skill set makes him the ideal collaborator for delivering stylized horror humor on an indie budget—with scope and polish beyond what most emerging filmmakers can achieve. He helped bring Lemonade of Love to life and is ready to turn up the volume for this feature.

Together, this team blends comedy, horror, and killer romcom chemistry. They’ve proven it once zero budget at all. Now they’re ready to do it to death.

Who Else, You Ask?

This team is wearing MANY hats, and we are so excited to get the right people for other jobs on this project!
