The Story
Who are we?
Lowkey Moxie is an independent TV studio that aims to modernize the way we create and consume television. As the traditional market contracts, demand for original stories remains at an all-time high. This dissonance leaves the industry primed for an indie revolution, similar to that of the late 90s and early 2000s.
With decades of experience as independent producers, we're creating new opportunities for people to have more agency in their work and earn a living wage by producing and self-distributing high-quality half-hour and one-hour shows at a fraction of the cost of traditional broadcast and streaming corporations. This is done by keeping our overhead low and eliminating the C-suite. Everyone from our Founder/President to our intern is treated equitably and paid a wage that properly reflects their invaluable contribution to every project.
Using Twitch as a self-distribution platform, we blend the classic, ad-supported TV model with real-time connection popularized by content creators and influencers to provide quality creator-driven scripted shows that bring back must-see TV by watching with our audience, chatting together, and building community.
Today's generation still loves stories; they just no longer want to be only spectators.
By keeping our budgets low, our writers have the freedom to make bold choices and take time to find the show's voice. Like the old Hollywood studio model, not every show needs to be an instant hit, but the ones that are keep the lights on while the others learn or pivot.
To bring this vision to life, we've partnered with several great teams already making waves in the industry. Butcher Bird Studios developed one of the first interactive sci-fi series (Oribital Redux), and produces livestream events for Netflix, Disney, and Twitch, among others. 3B Law is a favorite with studios like A24, and provides their expertise on indie darling films like I LOVE BOOSTERS and TRAIN DREAMS, as well as in television with the DEXTER reboots and A BLACK LADY SKETCH SHOW.
Lowkey Moxie also has the growing support of people in the industry who have worked on projects like PARADISE, BREAKING BAD, MOANA, STAR TREK: DISCOVERY, SUPERNATURAL, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, MATLOCK, PLURIBUS, and many more. Here's a video from one of our friends sharing why he supports Lowkey Moxie:

Why us?
The genesis for Lowkey Moxie began in 2018, as I (Sandrene) began transitioning from working in production to pursuing a career in television writing. I wanted a way to showcase the talent of the Nashville film community (where I lived at the time) while getting experience developing for television.
After I moved to Los Angeles during the pandemic, it quickly became apparent that the industry wasn't going to return to the way it was, and it was prime time for another indie revolution. And we are still experiencing the impact the late 90s and early 2000s had on film, but what would that look like for television? Budgets are very different, for sure. But the biggest hurdle is the lack of distribution avenues. Over the next few years, I spoke with showrunners and other writers, producers, and executives to discuss the state of the industry and its needs, all while it continued to crumble around us.
Lowkey Moxie isn't run by businessmen whose primary focus is on quarterly reports and making their shareholders and themselves the most money. We are a collaboration of film and television professionals, with experience in the indie and Hollywood system, who understand that putting people and story first is the best way to create authentic shows that people want to watch.
How does it work?
Like TV of yesteryears and content creators of today, each show will partner with brands that align with the showrunner's vision. They are then developed with organic advertising (aka product placement) in mind. We'll have a production schedule similar to streamers, where we'll have a small room to write the season, then shoot and edit it. The completed episodes will stream weekly, with our team active in a live chat. The following day, we'll host a post-show to go behind the scenes on the production process, answer fan questions, and discuss the show. It's a mix of DVD commentary and podcast, but with real-time conversation with the audience.
Each series will be guild signatory under their respective New Media contract because we want people to be able to work and have health insurance, and to provide opportunities for people who've been ready and waiting to break in. And EVERYONE, from EP to PA, will participate in profit sharing, so when a show becomes successful, everyone you see in the credits will reap the benefits.
We're pretty genre agnostic, and open to co-productions! We just want to make television that has something to say about life. But here's a sample of what we're working on already.

In the style of CHAPELLE'S SHOW and KEY & PEELE, featuring up-and-coming comedians and filmmakers from various backgrounds. We tackle tough yet evergreen political, social, and emotional topics with humor and grace.

A murder mystery. When a faculty member is found dead on a small college campus, the building is locked down until the mystery is solved. But even with a potential killer among them, students and adults alike can't resist getting caught up in petty drama as true feelings are revealed in times of crisis.
THE AFTER PARTY meets SEX LIVES OF COLLEGE GIRLS, this will also be a transmedia production where you can help us find clues across the Internet to solve the mystery.
How can you help?
Although our shows will be funded by brand partners, there are ongoing core costs that will persist even if we're not actively developing a show. Things like legal and accounting and our part-time (for now) development execs. This campaign will provide us with the seed money we need to get started so that all funds we receive from our brand partners can go directly into the show. Here's a breakdown of our budget, which can also be found on our wishlist page:
Everything we make beyond this will go toward a full year's budget, plus filling out our team. Here's a breakdown of our stretch goals into the first year of operation:

We are also fiscally sponsored by Fractured Atlas, so if you choose to make a tax-deductible donation as an individual or through corporate matching, make sure to let us know!
