The Story

In this sci-fi retelling of the Romulus and Remus myth, a loyal member of a decaying Italian-American drug empire is forced to choose between protecting his self-destructive brother and securing his future in the ruthless crime syndicate.

You will follow twins Romolo (Kyle Padeni) and Remo (Nick D'Agostino) as they navigate their strained relationship, attempt to secure fraying bonds to the fracturing drug empire, and exploit the natural resources off their shores.
Harvesting the strange snails from the ocean and draining them of their life force, which is then sold as a coveted narcotic, is a delicate system that reflects the tenuous familial ties between the brothers, the crime family, and the murky past that connects it all. As their history comes into focus, fact and myth coalesce and the deformed face of reality they uncover pushes them to the brink of sanity...
The twins' story intertwines with Julia (Leyla Aria), Bacchus (Francisco Huergo), Charun (Chris Williams) and others as you follow their tale into a spiral of chaos and inevitability. We are so proud and honored to be working with this local and talented cast!

This story has been years in the making, dating all the way back to the founding of Rome. Just kidding, kind of...
Nick D'Agostino has tweaked and perfected the script over the last decade. With LUPERCALIANS, he has brought together two of his obsessions in science fiction and Roman history and molded them into an original crime drama accented by his unique sense of humor. He has enlisted the talented Lucia Tarro (Cinematographer) to help bring his vision to life. Together with Dorian Magee (Producer) and her organizational skills, they hope to bring this strange but deeply personal story to life. Their previous production, SUPER BEEF, was a micro-budget sci-fi comedy odyssey that audiences across the country at film festivals connected with, going so far as to award it several prizes. But the budget (or lack thereof) definitely showed. For this next effort, the script is tighter but also much bolder. To do it justice, we are leveling up in every aspect of production, which also means we'll need actual funding.

Think the Godfather directed by body-horror era David Cronenberg. Or a novelization of Corky Romano written by Philip K. Dick. Okay, maybe that's a little too specific...

That all might seem insane... but insanity is our specialty!

- 40% : will go directly to our extremely creative and ambitious cast and crew
- 15% : will go to partnering with SFX artists and purchasing props to bring some amazing gore to life
- 15% : will go to equipment and gear rentals
- 15% : will go to post-production for sound design, color grade, etc.
- 15% : will go to miscellaneous expenses like costuming, catering and lodging

Fun Fact: The inspiration for the "mux" purple drug, as seen in the prologue, came to Nick as he read that "tyrian purple" dye used in ancient Rome was derived from predatory Murex sea snails. Thus, making the color purple a symbol of power, wealth and royalty!
