Why Support Make It Out?
Every conversation I have with other Black people ends the same way: We know something has to change—but we don’t know what to do next.
That feeling of uncertainty, frustration, and isolation is something so many of us are carrying. Make It Out was born from one simple but urgent question: How do we move forward?
This documentary brings together Black historians, organizers, community leaders, and young people for an honest conversation about our past, our present, and our future. Together, we’ll explore how we rebuild stronger communities, protect what we’ve created, and prepare the next generation of Black leaders with knowledge, strategy, and hope.
My name is Morgan Colvin. Growing up in the south suburbs of Chicago, I witnessed firsthand how education, policy, and opportunity shape communities. It wasn’t until college that I realized how much of my own history I had never been taught. Learning that history transformed my life—it led me to become a student activist, organize for policy change, and eventually find my voice through filmmaking. Now I’m using film to create the documentary I wish existed when I was searching for answers.
In a time of misinformation, political division, and renewed attacks on Black history, Make It Out creates space for thoughtful dialogue rooted in truth, history, and real solutions. This isn’t about dwelling on the past—it’s about learning from it so we can build a better future.

How Your Contribution Will Be Used
Every dollar raised will go directly toward bringing Make It Out to life. Your support allows us to create a professional, welcoming environment where meaningful conversations can happen.
Funding will help cover:
- Location rental to provide the right space for filming and discussion.
- Craft services including meals, snacks, water, and coffee to keep our cast and crew energized throughout long production days.
- Camera equipment to capture the film with the quality this story deserves.
- Audio equipment to ensure every conversation is heard clearly and professionally.
- Transportation and gas for traveling to filming locations and transporting equipment.
- Miscellaneous production expenses, including unexpected purchases and day-of production needs that naturally arise during independent filmmaking.

About This Team
Morgan Colvin (Director and DP) - I grew up in the south suburbs of Chicago, where I saw firsthand how education, policy, and opportunity shape communities, however, once I got older and went to college, I realized that I did not truly know my history. Was that Intentional? Is Black history under attack? Yes.
Once I had the opportunity to learn more about my ancestors; I was opened to a world that was not taught to me. After reading, Assata Shakur’s Autobiography, I ended up switching my major Political Science and became a Black student activist; organizing for policy changes that directly impacted students of color. Despite facing threats and opposition, our efforts led to real institutional reform — an experience that shaped my commitment to advocacy and storytelling. This showed me that education is a tool that once obtained, can never be taken away.
After graduating during the pandemic, I explored nonprofit work and marketing before discovering my passion for filmmaking. Since then, I’ve worked on major productions like The Chi, collaborated with national brands such as McDonald’s, and contributed to independent creative projects. Today, I combine my background in politics, education, and film to create stories that inform, empower, and amplify voices that deserve to be heard.
Ahsha Davis (Producer and Line Producer) - Ahsha Davis is filmmaker, producer, and radio podcaster who is native of Detroit, MI. She received her Bachelor of Applied Arts in Broadcasting and Cinematic Arts with a double minor in Spanish and Communications from Central Michigan University where she began her media career working in radio, news, television, film. She also spent time serving on various campus wide initiatives within equity and inclusion. Her love for media began in 2015 where she worked at WMHW- FM radio station on the News Production team. She then transitioned to the Program Director of a Hip Hop Station and served in that role for 3 years.
Ahsha quickly transitioned into the Film and Television industry and is currently a producer helping with the development of stories. Ahsha received her Master of Arts in Electronic Media Studies from Central Michigan where she focused on researching the Emotional Effects of Film through Marvel Cinematic Universe and plans to continue research in the area. She recently graduated with her second masters from Columbia College Chicago in Film and Television Producing. Ahsha truly enjoys being a TV and Film producer and hopes to own her own production company to help young filmmakers achieve their dreams.
