The Story
It's so easy, in today's society, to get caught up in what others think. How much we are "liked" and validated by others. Social media and communication technology can be tools for change and positivity, but often are abused in social relationships. Saying harsh things via text and on a Facebook comment takes little effort and emotional involvement, and avoiding real confrontation and dialogue is often cast aside because it's just easier to text someone what they want to say. Our film examines these ideas.
Mama Drama follows Sam, a suburban mom who gets herself into some trouble with a close group of friends. A small misunderstanding turns into a big blow out and she learns some harsh truths about her friends and herself in the process. Engrossed in text messages and her need to be heard and accepted, Sam basically checks out as a mom. Sam's 10-year-old daughter Jane, tries to knock some sense into Sam with some of Sam's own motherly advice, but will Sam listen?
